NAIROBI COUNTY YOUTH MEMORANDUM TO NAIROBI COUNTY

GOVERNMENT

We as young people feel sidelined by the county government, so we have felt the urge to come
together and engage the county government and these are our resolutions:-

1. We declare that we want inclusion of youth in county government advisory boards

2. Due to high rate of youth unemployment we demand the county government to provide
labor market and employment information so that calls for creation and improvement of
youth empowerment centers that already exist.
3. Since private sector are within the jurisdiction of Nairobi county we demand that the
county government should push them to provide at least 30% employment opportunities
to the youth
4. We demand clear definitions of youth programs that are set aside by the county
government for the youths.
5. We declare as young people that we want the full support of county government in the
formulation of Nairobi county youth policy since there is none in existence and that will
enhance public youth participation and relevant stakeholders
6. We demand for youth appointments in the county boards to champion the interests of the
youths.
7. We demand access of both national and county youth affirmative funds to be given to
youth since it is in writing but young people never benefit from these funds.
8. We demand that the county government expands the youth participation on the access to
youth procurement opportunities and grant the 30% of the same to real young people and
not assumed young people whom in reality are old people.
Additional from the group discussions
1. Unemployment and accessibility to funds, markets, vocational trainings and tenders
2. Total youth inclusion in job appointments and in offering ideas on development
agenda of the county
3. In regards to tender, the county government to consider CBOs and youth groups as
companies to allow them access tenders and at the same time have linkages programs
4. Capacity building and mentorship programs
5. Scrap off regulations, beaurocracies and tedious demands on government tenders
6. Set up information centers to help in addressing community challenges
7. Involve the youth in security issues to avoid vices and encourage employment
8. County government to partner with youth groups to work on issues of garbage
collection
9. Improve on the licensing of youth related businesses and ventures and have business
incubation centers

Muthoni: Have a youth employment audit; Have a youth convention; Do proposals;

10. Housing upgrade in slums….

11. Education even on sexuality and issues of family planning
 12. Information and access to information platforms across all sub-counties under the
youth with all relevant information
13. Have revamped youth empowerment centers and social halls manned by youths and
these centers must have a WiFi hotspot availability
14. Improve Tivets and technical centers such that we have youths with technical skills in
our society
