TED BUNDY

Biography

Theodore "Ted" Bundy was born in Burlington, Vermont on November 24, 1946. He was

a 1970s serial murderer, rapist and necrophiliac. He was Eleanor Cowell’s son. Who was

a very religious woman. At the age of 22, She delivered the child at a home for unwed

mothers in Vermont but then, she came back to brought him to her parents in Philadelphia.

To hide the fact he was an illegitimate child, Bundy was raised as the adopted son of his

grandparents and he believed that his mother was his sister for years. Apparently, Bundy

grew up in a content, working-class family.

While a student at the University of Washington, Bundy fell in love with a wealthy, pretty

young woman from California. He was devastated by their breakup. Many of his later

victims resembled his college girlfriend—attractive students with long, dark hair. His

killings also usually followed a gruesome pattern. He often raped his victims before

beating them to death.

He graduated from University of Washington with a degree in psychology in 1972 and

He had been accepted to law school in Utah. Bundy fought for his life, spending years

appealing his death sentence. He tried to take his case as high as the U.S. Supreme Court,

but he was turned down Ted Bundy, viciously murdered and sexually assaulted 30

women. On January 24, 1989, Ted Bundy was put to death around 7 a.m. at the Florida

State Prison in an electric chair.

He was classified as a High Factor 1 Psychopath, which means he was intelligent and

He had very few signs of psychopathy early in his life.


1. Causes. In your opinion, what were the factors that influenced and

guided to this person into a criminal life? What went wrong?

 The rejection and emotional separation from the family. These include the

rejection of a strong father figure, psychopathic and violent characteristics in the

grandfather, lack of attention from a depressed grandmother and a young mother

who was said to be his sister in order to protect the family name.

 He didn’t count with a maternal connection.

 Ted Bundy preferred the company of himself and found it difficult to relate with

others, particularly after the breakup of his first girlfriend. So, he developed an

obsession with his first girlfriend by years.

 He was obsessed with pornography and his addiction grew as the years went on

and at some point, the hardcore, violent pornography.

2. Effects. - Describe the criminal behaviors

 Feelings of rejection, frustration, anger and powerlessness.

 He committed sexual assaults, such as revisiting to some of his victims to

continually engage in sexual actions until the women’s remains were decomposed

or demolished from wild animals.

 He failed to understand what interpersonal relationships were about.

 He developed a psychopathy personality which is characterized by a great sense

of self, pathological lying, conning-manipulative behaviors, lack of remorse, lack

of empathy and failure to accept responsibility.

 Brutal assassinations and sexually assaulted 30 women and possibly more.


3. In your opinion, what would have changed his criminal mind and
behavior? Use the third conditional.
 If he had had a good and trustful relationship with his mom. He wouldn’t have
developed rejection feelings.
 If he hadn’t broken up with his girlfriend, He wouldn’t have developed feelings
of anger and revenge against all women.

4. If you were in front of this person what advices would you tell
him/her to change that criminal life?
 If we ever had had a chance to talk to him. We probably would tell him that he should
have forgotten about the past, done is done and there’s nothing in this world could
change that, except him. Starting over and going on depends on him.
 If you weren’t feeling good and you were starting to have negative thoughts against
people around you. You should have asked a professional for help.
 You should have got over your ex-girlfriend and you shouldn’t have keep on killed
those innocents women.

5. Justify why did the group choose to talk about this criminal? What is
relevant?
We chose that guy because we thought it was an interesting story, I mean that it was very
weird that a guy who dedicated to study human brain and behaviors. He had become a serial
killer and done all those terrible things.

6. What did you learn doing this task? Try to relate your opinions to the
fields of foreign language and psychology.
Doing this task ,we had learnt new technical vocabulary for example the name of some
mental illnesses in English, and also it helped a lot to improveo ur techniques of relating
causes with effects, observation and the importance of how our past could have a huge
impact in our future.
