The duration of the class: 120 minutes

Target: Getting students to understand and use the vocabulary of the fifth chapter of A close
shave. Helping students to be able to retell the story and get used to using the expressions in
the book.

Vocabulary:

- New vocabulary: headline, prison, handkerchief, bite, parcel, puzzle, calendar, metal-
cutter, bar, slip

1 Warm up: Name Five Paper and writing 15 minutes


The teacher shows category on the slide and the materials
students write down as many things they can think of
that pertain to that particular category. The goal is to Handouts
name 5. The first person who completes a list of 5
reads their list.
The next category is read by the teacher and the
game continues.
Review 1: Matching
Read the statements, write the missing words and
match them with the correct pictures.
2 Introducing vocabulary Power point 15 minutes
(Check the students’ pronunciation carefully. Ask them
many questions to repeat the vocab and to check their
understanding of the new words/ phrases)

3 Review 2: Wordseacrh Word search 25 minutes


Ask the Ss to read 10 statements in the handout and
use the words they learned previously to fill in the
gaps. Then ask them to find these words in the word
search.
4 Reading and listening Story/ power 25 minutes
point
Teacher reads the story first without giving the
students the text.

Give the text to students. FT reads the story again.


The whole class listens and then repeats what teacher
says.

Students sit in groups and read the story out loud. FT


corrects their pronunciation.

Check students’ reading comprehension by asking


them the questions related to the story.

5 Review 3: Jeopardy PowerPoint 20 minutes

Using textbook, and notes are not allowed.


Form 2 groups, and choose a group to be the first
contestants.
Team keeps own score on sheet of paper

The game dollar amount is the value added to your


game score if the Ss respond correctly, or subtracted
from their game score if they respond incorrectly. Ss
only have 15 seconds to give their answer.

Go in order from low to high dollar amounts.

6 Review 4: What happened? Handout: Writing 20 minutes


Give each student a handout, then ask them to write
one or two sentences about what happened in the
pictures.

In pair, the Ss read their summary to each other.
