Mean Chairs - Aufgabe #1 - Anthropometrics

Seating is an interesting study because people come in assorted sizes and

proportions and their tasks vary. People sit to eat, sit to commute to work, sit
at home in the evenings to converse, to read, to watch TV, or to work on a hobby.
Some chairs appear to be designed with no thought given to the person who is to be
accomodated, to the seat size or height, to the support of the lumbar region, or
to the correct design of the armrests. People often have a favorite chair, but
many people buy furniture mostly for the sake of appearance and later become
dissatisfied with their choice.

Aufgabe #1 is a study of Anthropometrics. For this exercise take as reference your

own body (or choose one of you if you work in team) and make a study similar to
the image above (try to get as close as you can). This image can be found in "The
Measure of Man and Woman: Human Factors in Design" by Henry Dreyfuss Associates.

The body should be measured taking in consideration the following views:

a) frontal standing; b) lateral standing; c) sideways sitting

With the measurements produce a group of images similar to the one from Dreyfuss.
You can draw a diagram or you can use pictures from you with the diagram
justaposed. Bring the images in digital format (pen drive) to present in class
(5min). NOTE: when collecting your measurements pay equal attention to the
distances between each joint of the body and the angle that each joint allows the
body to make.
