Applies materials science with engineering principles and

manufacturing and quality problems.
Works with cross functional teams on projects such as:
Material selection, failure analysis, material characterization,
interpretation and writing of specifications, product quality
inspections, material process development, production
process validation and material property data.
May require travelling to suppliers and customers to
troubleshoots complex problems and recommends
appropriate actions.
Approve material equivalency or new materials and initiates
evaluation and implementation of beneficial emerging
material and material processing technology.
Leads small projects or portions of large projects.
Assists with the transfer of knowledge; coaches and mentors
less experienced engineers.
Operate a variety of metallographic and physical testing
equipment.
Metallographic sample preparation equipment,
metallographs
Microindentation hardness testers,
Scanning electron microscopes (SEM)
Rockwell/Brinell hardness testers
Keep organized and detailed records of laboratory work

Skills:

Candidate shall have a fundamental knowledge of


mechanical & chemical properties of composites, ferrous and
non-ferrous alloys, structure-property correlation,
metallurgical characterization technique such as:
hardness/tensile testing,
non-destructive testing,
fractography & microstructural evaluation
Manufacturing and processing knowledge of materials as
they apply to automotive applications is desired.
Ability to initiate failure analysis or root cause data-gathering,
correctly interpret the data, and report results to customers
with limited supervision.
Articulate lab work plans, and collect and report data using
the appropriate metallurgical characterization techniques.
Other job tasks include, but are not limited to, metallurgical
process design, development/validation for production
support.
Great interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate
with supply chain in supplier selection, validation, and post-
launch troubled shooting are desired.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgy, Material Science


and Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. A higher
degree will be an advantage.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is required.
DFSS training is an asset.
Green belt or black belt certification is an asset.
