Narrative: On October 12, 2017 at about 0847 hours, Detective Peter Zampini, from the Boynton Beach Police Department, called the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office to report that he was at the scene of a suspected suicide due to gunshot wound in the parking lot at 2424 N. Federal Highway in Boynton Beach, Florida, 33435. Investigator Nelson responded to the scene where she met with Detective Zampini and other law enforcement personnel. Detective Zampini reported that the decedent is a 55 year old white male named Michael Anthony Demarco (DOB: 04-01-1962). ‘The decedent is a detective with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. The decedent’s last name is written on his shirt, ‘The Boynton Beach Police ‘Department officers positively identified the decedent via a DAVID photograph. ‘The initial investigation revealed that the decedent was sitting in the parking lot in his unmarked police vehicle, apparently waiting for his ex-girlfriend who lives in the apartment complex. The decedent talked to the community maintenance man (Robert Rozzero) for a short while prior to the incident. Mr. Rozzero reported that the woman came out to walk her dog. ‘The decedent saw her and he sped up his car to reach her in the parking lot. The decedent got out of his car and the two engaged in a verbal discussion, which ultimately turned into a physical confrontation in which the couple appeared to be wresting. The decedent, dressed in his work clothes and carrying a gun, pulled his gun and shot his ex- girlfriend two times, once in the shoulder and once in the chest. The decedent then tumed the gun on himself, shooting himself in the head. ‘Mr. Rozzero witnessed the incident and called 911 at sometime around 0800 hours. Medics from the Boynton Beach Fire Rescue responded to the scene where they transported the ex-girlfriend to a local hospital for treatment and pronounced the decedent's death at 0808 hours. Page 1 of2 Scene and Body “The scene was located in the parking lot of a residential apartment community. The police cordoned off the area with yellow tape and covered the body with a portable canopy cover and a sheet. Three numbered, yellow evidence markers were in the parking lot within 20 feet of the body. All three markers were used to mark the location of a single spent casing (3 casings). A field dressing kit was also in the parking lot, presumably left by the responding rescue personnel. ‘The bloody sheet was removed from over the body. The decedent was found face up on the pavement wearing a black polo style shirt, embroidered on the front with the name DS M. DeMARCO on the right chest and a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office emblem on the left. A pair of glasses was resting on the chest between the embroidered inscriptions. The decedent had tan BDU cargo style pants, a black leather belt with a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Detective’s Badge affixed to the right side, an empty gun holster on his right hip and black boots. The decedent was laid flat out on his back with his arms down along his side, A black semi-automatic style Glock handgun, with the initials “PBSO and a Star” on the barrel, was on the ground next to the decedent’s left side with the barrel facing down and away from the body. ‘The decedent’s head was resting in pooling blood. A cursory examination of the body revealed what appeared to be a circular defect surrounded by possible stippling to the right side of the head and face and another, irregularly shaped defect to the left side of the head. Both eyes were blown out. Blood spatter was on the right hand. Elite Body Removal personnel removed the body from the scene. The police contacted and notified the decedent’s son, QM and his daughter, Jp WEEN sdout the death. ‘Nothing Further Page 2 of 2
