Letter No. Cyclone damages/VE Road/East/SA/2014, dated 03.01.2015.

Sir,
Sub: - Works(R&B) Division, Kakinada – Cyclone Damages- Cyclone damage repair
by stone dumping and rebuilding of damaged crust of Vakalapudi-Edatam
road for temporary restoration pertaining to East section, Kakinada--
Submitted – Regarding.

The Vakalapudi – Edatam road is an important State Highway in East Godavari

District, having a total length of 46 kms., connects several fishermen villages of Kakinada
Rural, U.Kothapalli and Thondangi mandals to the District Head Quarters and Port City of
Kakinada. This road starts at km.3.500 of Sarpavaram Junction to Vakalapudi light house
peta road (M.D.R.) and crosses Kakinada - Rajanagaram (ADB) road and Samalkota -
Uppada road.

This road is passing through number of fishermen villages upto Tuni and number
of R&B roads and heavy intensity of traffic prevails on the road as the public of all these
villages travels on this road to reach Kakinada City on one side and to reach Pilgrim centre at
Annavaram on other side. The Road stretch from Km.7/000 to 11/000 runs in very close
proximity (i.e., 1.00M to 2.00M) to the Sea i.e., Bay-of-Bengal. Due to "HUDHUD"
Cyclone during 11.10.2014 to 12-10-2014 the Road embankment is eroded including BT
carriageway in the stretch from km.7/300 to 10/6 in bits and necessary temporary restoration
works by stone dumping are being taken up in these stretches.

But due to ASOBA CYCLONE & depression/cyclone during 31.12.2014 to 01-01-

2015 , the stretch from km 6/800 to 7/300 which was not so badly effected during HUDHUD
was eroded badly including BT carriageway in bits and is in very dangerous condition. The
Restoration is very much essential for free flow of traffic. Tidal waves during high tides are
further eroding the embankment and there is every possibility of complete breaching of the
existing road and Sea waters may enter in to the nearby Fields and may cause extensive
damage to Ryths and residents, if protection is not taken up on war footing basis.

No dumping of stone work was taken up earlier in this stretch . Total protection is required
with dumping stones as proposed in the schematic drawing enclosed wih the estimate.

In view of the above, it is top most priority to take up the temporary restoration works
by filling scour portions as well as eroded portions on sea side with Jeddy Stone dumping
using 450mm to 600mm size HBG variety stone for a top width of at least 2.00M for
protecting the road embankment and Juddy stone dump in 1 in 3 slope on Sea side to
prevent the splashes of Tidal waves and erosion of embankment at the time of High tide.

Rebuilding the crust in the damaged portions/breach portions with GSB, WMM and
25 mm thick semi dense Bituminous concrete is also required for smooth flow of
traffic.Hence the following CDR estimates are herewith submitted for according sanction
at an early date .

1) Cyclone Damage Repairs by Stone dumping & rebuilding of crust to Vakalapudi -

Edatam Road from km. 6/8000 to 7/075 in East Godavari District. Estt. Rs. 50.00
Lakhs.

2) Cyclone Damage Repairs by Stone dumping & rebuilding of crust to Vakalapudi -

Edatam Road from km 7/075 to 7/300 in East Godavari District. Estt. Rs. 50.00
