SUGGESTED SPECIFICATION FOR RICKARD ANALOG ELECTRONIC

CONTROLLERS VARIABLE GEOMETRY VAV AIR DIFFUSION
EQUIPMENT (WITHOUT REHEAT):

Supply and install type ESU 3XG Analog Electronic Temperature Controls in
conjunction with Rickard Variable Geometry VAV terminal units as manufactured by
Rickard Air Diffusion (Pty) Ltd. of Cape Town South Africa.

Temperature controllers shall provide 24 V AC proportional/integral control to the

Lindrive actuator fitted to each VAV terminal and be able to control a single master and
a maximum of five slaved diffusers using simple plenum rated cable and RJ 45 plugs.
Control signal from the ESU 3XG controller shall be transmitted to each VAV terminal
device via an interface printed circuit board, having 3 x RJ 45 sockets, any one of which
may be used, in any sequence, to interface diffusers with a master controller, slaved
diffusers or wall thermostats.

Room temperature shall be sensed by means of wall thermostats having touch pad
temperature adjustment and digital sensed room temperature readout. The wall
thermostats must be connected to the VAV diffuser control system by means of plenum
rated cables with RJ 45 plugs at each end and must be able to be interfaced with either
master or slave diffuser interface printed circuit boards. For the purpose of system
balancing and commissioning, each thermostat must provide a manual over ride facility
to drive the diffusers, interconnected to each thermostat/controller, to the fully open or
minimum control disc position.

To provide full variable volume in both cooling and heating modes, master diffusers
shall be fitted with a sensor. Fitting shall take place on site within the diffuser neck
through the aperture fitted with a rubber grommet and connected to the master diffuser
interface printed circuit board. This sensor, when operating in conjunction with the
master ESU 3XG controller, must automatically change diffusers from the cooling mode
into the heating mode when supply air temperature is elevated above sensed room
temperature and back into the cooling mode when supply air temperature is reduced
below sensed room temperature.

Controls shall carry the manufacturer’s 2 -year warranty.
