Ketu and Spiritual Intelligence Part 1

Ketu - South Node of Moon

Om Chitravarnaya vidmahe
Sarpa Roopaya Dheemahe
Tanno Ketu Prachodayat
Ketu, the opposite node to Rahu, came into being during the churning of the Ocean of Milk. The last
gift of that churning was the emergence of the God of Healing, Dhanvantari, with the pot of amrit,
the nectar of immortality. Ketu and Rahu were whole at that time, in the form of a demon known as
Swarbharnu, who engaged in subterfuge to obtain the nectar whilst it was being served out by the
enchantress Mohini. The deception was discovered by the Sun and Moon, who ran tale-telling to the
great God Maha Vishnu, who promptly sent his discus and separated the head from the body; the
body is today known as Lord Ketu, South Node of the Moon.

Ketu has very poor reputation garnered over the ages and in narrative, yet, is disposer of intelligence
of a deep order. Ketu is also disposer of Spiritual Intelligence.

Aspects of Ketu

Ketu, the Vedic deity and navagraha sans head, has a dark body, smoky in colour with flecks of
green. As Ketu behaves and takes characteristics from Mars (with whom Ketu is enemy), Ketu shares
the Pita dosha with Mars, being fiery in nature. Of the nakshatras, Ketu is Lord of Ashwini - the first
nakshatra, rajasic (energetic) in nature and auspices dharma, right action. In Mahga nakshatra, Ketu
is once again rajasic in nature and here, seeks artha, wealth. In Moola, the 21st nakshatra, Ketu is
also rajasic in nature and here, has the goal of kama, desire.

It is important to note these nakshatras, for each marks the first in distinct divisions of the
nakshatras and divisions (called pada). Ketu marks the birth of the conscious mind in Ashwini, the
forward development of conscience in Mahga and the drive to supreme consciousness in Moola.

Ketu is a lesser malefic than his opposite, Rahu. Ketu is friendly towards Rahu and
Venus, neutral toward Sun, Jupiter, Mercury and Saturn, and enemies with Mars and the Moon
(causes lunar eclipses). Ketu is exalted in Scorpio, debilitated in Taurus, shares House Lordship with
Mercury in the sixth house, rules the south-west with Rahu and has digbala (extra strength) in the
12th house. In the astrological chart, Ketu (and Rahu) always move in reverse order, backwards with
respect to the motion of the other planets.

Conjunctions of planets with Ketu are said to be eclipses of that planet. As the nodes and their
activity of causing eclipses causes blockages of light from the Sun and planets, they are points of
transformation of energy. We must remember that the planets are forces which disperse the light
they reflect from the Sun. When this reflected light is blocked, there is shadow. When the shadow
passes, there is light again. Which transformed aspect of the seven rays has been exposed to the
light, brought out into the light of day? We must ask ourselves about this transformation, change. It
is the function of the nodes, Rahu and Ketu, to reveal hidden forces, strength and energy through
their activity.

Divinity, Light, Deity

Light comes from the Central Sun of all the Worlds - all the Universes, to the Sun of our own solar
system in this galaxy. That light is then reflected by the planets in a process of combining and
recombining light as vibration, force, energy and thus, creating inner change around the souls, the
hearts and minds of men, women and children. This world is light, this solar system is light, this
galaxy is light, this universe is light, all is light in separation (maya or illusion) from the One Light
which the soul is a spark of.
We may name this uncreated, self-effulgent light the Creative Source of All, Self-effulgent, Divine,
God, Purusha (the universe is the body of the formless Divine), and with many other names. Divinity,
in any other word. All planets are expressions of the One form, the Purusha, and thus, reflect divine
energy. Each of the planets are divine forces and it is their task to raise us up to the Divine itself.
Ketu is one of the Gods, and the Divine auspicing Ketu are Brahma, the creator-god, and Rudra, the
terrible aspect of the God who is the receiver of all things.

Ketu and Spiritual Intelligence

It is said that Rahu and Ketu form the celestial army (BHPS). Rahu pushes back the frontiers while
Ketu maintains the home territories. It is here, in the home territory, the inner space within that
Ketu delves deep with wide range and capacity for inner exploration, self awareness and
concentration. Ketu is said to be karaka - disposer of jnana - wisdom, and in this aspect gives deep
intelligence and deep concentration. All intelligence is problem solving skill.

There are several elements of spirituality - such as mystical experiences, transcendence,

sanctification, spirituality as problem solving skill and spirituality as ethical and virtuous behaviour.
These are the components of spiritual intelligence.

I'd like to take a moment to raise a distinction between religion and spirituality. Religion is an
institution with organised beliefs. Spirituality, on other hand, is an experience.

Spirituality doesn't require you to believe anything. Rather, spirituality constantly invites you to
notice your experience. Your personal experience becomes your authority rather than something
someone else has told you.

Spiritual practice imparts an awareness within you to what will bring you peace, and what
will not bring peace. Yet, frequently, spiritual progress disturbs peace. This is one of the principal
functions of Ketu in the spiritual dimension, to disturb peace by bursting the bunds, the inner
spiritual boundaries with interaction with the divine, revelation of the divine, in the outer world
through activity. Ketu has the function of exposing us to new realities, reality which is imbued and
filled by the Divine, both immanent (within everything) and transcendent (beyond and in all at the
same time).

The Celestial Army, the Inward Battle

We said earlier that Rahu and Ketu form the celestial army. It is the purpose of an army to provide
protection and defence of the community, through formation and discipline. To carry the metaphor
further, military discipline takes raw recruits, drills them, exposes them to heretofore unknown
skills, abilities, experiences, environments and pressures all with stringent discipline in preparation
to providing that protection and defence. Ketu does the same; after acquisition personal habits as
spiritual foundation in a landscape of inner personal comfort zone and safety, Ketu, lord of rajasic
(active, excitable, energised) nakshatras in the stages of the journey, bursts those bunds and flattens
the landscape. Ketu takes us further into the war of the outer senses versus the inner instruments of
action, the antarkaranas, the mind, the intellect, the consciousness, and pushes back the boundaries
within toward the all-pervading consciousness.

This is clearly indicated by the nakshatras Ketu has lordship of; each of these nakshatras is a marker
of growth from conscious (man is homo sapiens sapiens - man is conscious and has the capacity for
self-awareness, the foundation of wisdom; hence the Greek sapiens) to conscience ( the use of
buddhi, intellect) and consciousness, awareness beyond the five senses (chitta). Each nakshatra
marks stages in the journey, from mind to intellect to consciousness. This is process of acquiring
knowledge, entering into knowledge, and practice of knowledge taking us to a deeper knowing and
awareness. This, is the task of Ketu in taking us to the goal of life, moksha, freedom from the cycle of
birth and rebirth.

Ketu and Spiritual Intelligence Part 2

Ketu - South Node of Moon

Om Chitravarnaya vidmahe
Sarpa Roopaya Dheemahe
Tanno Ketu Prachodayat

Self empowerment

We consider Ketu, South Node of the Moon as karaka - disposer - of intelligence of a high order. As
man is a unity of mind, body and spirit, then there are forms of knowing appropriate to the body, to
the mind and the intellect, which is nearest the soul (the atma), and derives over 90% of its
illumination from the soul. Ketu is also karaka for spiritual intelligence. In these days after the
Summer Solstice of 2012, new energies are pouring forth from the Creative Source of All, the Central
Source of all universes, and these energies mark the return of the 4th dimension, lost to man since
the Fall of Atlantis.
With the Fall of Atlantis, the Earth fell out of the 4th Dimension. What, then, is the enhanced role
and function of the planets in the return to the 4th Dimension? What is the spiritual order in the 4th
Dimension? For answers to these questions, we turn to the shadow-planet (chhaya graha) Ketu, who
is dispositor of Spiritual Intelligence.

Importance of Eclipses and Ketu

Ketu, south node of the Moon, is the lesser of the two malefic shadow planets. Ketu has a role in
eclipses, when the flow of light is blocked to planets, creating further blockages of light to our minds,
bodies and spirits. There are two principal planets which have primary effects on the human person:
the Sun - which signifies personality, health and splendour - and the Moon which is the presiding
deity of the mind. When lunar eclipses occur, there is blockage of light and energy from the Moon to
the mind, the body, the spirit. Ketu is the planet which casts the shadow on the mind during lunar
eclipses.

Eclipses - either solar or lunar - are critical points of transformation, as that which was in darkness, is
now transposed to the domain light by the reflection of increased light energies by the planets. In
this case, Ketu eclipses the Moon. The transposition of that which was in the dark is brought into the
light of the mind, presided over by the Moon. As the Moon is receiving and reflecting new energies,
new frequencies of light from the Creative Source of All, we must then ask ourselves, what is it that
Ketu is bringing to the light, in our spiritual development?

The Moon is the presiding deity of the Mind. It is receiving and reflecting the energies of the Fourth
dimension to the mind, to the so-called junk DNA, to the neurons in the mind. From this light, other
parts of the mind receive light. The Mind is the key: turn the key to the world, there is bondage; turn
the key to divinity, spirituality, there is release and freedom. The function of Ketu here is to eclipse
the mind and allow that which is hidden, buried deep, to be exposed to the light within the mind ...
directly ... to the light of the intellect.

That which is brought to the light from the shadow (by the shadow planet itself) is a tool for Self
empowerment.

Self empowerment is an important aspect of this return to the 4th Dimension, and more so, an
important aspect of spiritual intelligence. This is because spirituality does not require you to believe
anything, but rather, invites you to examine your experience and reflect on what works for you; Ketu
exposes that which is in the shadow (causing doubts and discontentment) and gives opportunity
discrimination and detachment via the intellect. This is a facet of spiritual intelligence as problem
solving skill.

Spiritual Intelligence has five components: transcendence, mysticism, sanctification, problem solving
skills (all intelligence is problem solving skill) and spirituality as ethical and virtuous behaviour. As we
have discussed, eclipses are points of tension where that which is hidden in the inner space becomes
outer reality. This creative tension propels doubts and discontents from the introverted fields of the
mind from darkness to light to be raised to a new order, a new skill, a new competency in the
armour of spirituality.

This creative tension propels doubts and discontents: these are exposed to the intellect. Spiritual
intelligence has a faculty of problem solving skill. Cognitive dissonance (the inner sense of
wrongness, discomfort, inner friction inner unrest) is brought to the scrutiny of the intellect where
we apply our problem solving skill. In the field of spirituality, our foundation of spiritual experiences
(dreams, mystical experiences, visions and encounters with the divine teacher), our transcendence
(selfless service of the other; feeding and clothing the poor, engagement in charitable works for the
benefit of society at large. Transcendence is participation in workshops on spiritual topics and going
on spiritual retreats. It is prayer and meditation in common, and participating in group prayers and
prayers in the public domain), our sanctification (making our day holy with prayer, meditation,
sacred reading, repeating the name of the Divine whom we adore, our affirmations or blessings of
light and love to other people, our environment), all come to bear and add to our problem solving
skill.

Ketu and Spiritual Intelligence

It is said that Rahu and Ketu are tamasic - the guna or elemental force to inaction (BHPS). There are
three gunas, rajas, satva and tamas. Tamas is the obstructing quality that prevents us from realising
happiness, whether spiritually or materially.

Tamasic qualities are: attachment to sense objects, hypocrisy, sympathy, an undeveloped sense of
“ought”, want of self respect, inactivity, stupidity, dullness, shyness, imperviousness to reason,
callousness, dependence through want of capacity, procrastination, moroseness, deception,
carelessness, negligence, strong feelings of obstinacy and anger when chastised for faults but
careless when not chastised and simply asked to mend faults, crookedness, duplicitous, intellectually
bent but heartless, lustful, covetous, a stealing propensity, a begging nature, superstitious,
treacherousness, habitual untruthfulness, and shrinking attitude or lack of self-confidence.

Tamasic qualities are transformed by self empowerment. Self empowerment, as aspect of spiritual
intelligence lies in the domain of spirituality as problem solving skill. It is here that self-
empowerment transforms these attitudes and behaviours. Rise and fall in human life is dependent
on human effort. While the planets cast their energies and light, we may undertake action toward
self-transformation instead of being passive victim. Recall the teaching, the energies of the planets
may either raise us up or pull us down. While there is planetary influence in signs and houses, the
spark of the divine resides within; none are without the skill of turning within and taking up the
positive side of the planet which influences us. The prayer Asatoma seeks that we go from darkness
to light, from the unreal to the real, from death to immortality. When we invoke the aid of Ketu as
karaka - disposer of intelligence, we may apply our energies to these tamasic, entropy-causing
activities and attitudes. We do this with the aid of the intellect, which bestows discrimination and
detachment.

Human beings are gifted with two innate functions of the intellect: discrimination and detachment.
Discrimination makes us seek the goal of life: What is the base, the support of all life? The intellect -
nearest the soul and deriving over 90% of its illumination from the soul - guides us to what is the
basis of life, what is not the basis of life; it guides us to cognise what supports our lives, what does
not support our lives. Detachment comes into play when we discard all that which holds us back
from attaining that knowledge, that basis, that support, that goal. Ketu, the shadow planet which
disposes intelligence of a high order, brings our attachments, our attitudes, our habits and our
character and places them before the light of the intellect and our discrimination. It is the task of
Ketu to strike the match which brings the flame of self-empowerment. Self empowerment examines
attachments, dullness, imperviousness to reason, obstinacy, shrinking attitude and lack of self
confidence with discrimination and detachment; we may keep, discard or manage various shadow
aspects of our personality and character. We choose self-empowerment with the light of the
intellect, the light of the soul.
Self empowerment is the journey to personal excellence along a continuum of knowledge, skill,
balance, insight and identity. It is the evolution of self confidence. It is learning to do, a life-long
learning skill, for no human is born to inactivity. It is acquisition of culture: culture that teaches you
to revere mother and father, culture that teaches you to respect teachers, elders and the laws of the
motherland. It is acquisition of skill, something that Ketu has in spades. Ketu - like any worker
requiring skill - may engage in drill, rehearsal, repetition, refinement, evaluation and further drill,
repetition and refinement to an extra-ordinary high degree of skilful behaviour and delivery with
competence.

Acquisition of competency leads to self-knowledge and awareness, which leads to self-confidence,

which leads to self satisfaction, then on to self-sacrifice and then self-realisation. We learn to know
ourselves, we acquire and apply skills, we learn to live together, we learn to be ourselves. These are
the stepping stones to self-empowerment, a fundamental task of Ketu as planetary deity who takes
us from conscious to conscience to consciousness. Ketu is Lord of the three nakshatras (asterisms)
which begin the journey and lead to liberation, moksha, freedom from the cycle of birth-death-and-
birth-again. Ketu's task is to take us to liberation, freedom from this cycle of birth and death.

Is it conundrum that a malefic planet is tasked to take us to liberation, moksha? All the planets
are amsa, parts of, representations of, departmental divinities placed in charge of certain aspects of
creation. All of creation is on a pathway to the ultimate goal, from evolution to involution, from
creation to absorption into the Divine. There is a plan, and that plan is perfect, whether a planet - or
shadow planet - is benefic or malefic.

Ketu is a malefic because he first hides those areas he affects in addition to bringing about that
eclipse-borne transformation and, thereby, freeing us from attachments. Although Ketu hides the
areas he affects by causing feelings of doubt and creating discontentment when character traits are
exposed to the light of day, Ketu has an important task in the in-breaking 4th Dimension: as shadow,
to take that which is in the shadow, and transform the base metal to gold, to transform self-doubt
and discontent to self-empowerment.

Ketu Questions
We have noticed further questions about Ketu raised by search engines which bring visitors to this
site, so we will engage in more discussion about Ketu and address some of the questions raised:
Ketu in various nakshatras, Ketu and the Moon, Ketu and Mars conjunction. And if there is time, we
may address Ketu and Spirituality. We keep in mind that Ketu is a shadow planet, a karmic repository
and an important agent on the journey toward the goal of life. Ketu (which means flag)
actually flags important staging posts on the human journey of return to the Source.

Ketu, the opposite node to Rahu, came into being during the churning of the Ocean of Milk. The last
gift of that churning was the emergence of the God of Healing, Dhanvantari, with the pot of amrit,
the nectar of immortality. Ketu and Rahu were whole at that time, in the form of a demon known as
Swabharnu, who engaged in subterfuge to obtain the nectar whilst it was being served out by the
enchantress Mohini. The deception was discovered by the Sun and Moon, who ran tale-telling to the
great God Maha Vishnu, who promptly sent his discus and separated the head from the body; the
body is today known as Lord Ketu, South Node of the Moon.

Ketu, one of two nodes (which are said to be terrible in nature) is born in the race of Asuras (when
whole; and when whole as the demon Swabharnu, held the title of Minister of the Asuras, a high
position). Nodes are said to eclipse the lives of living beings, and eclipse the mind when they conjoin
the luminaries. (The two nodes are non-luminary planets, what in vedic astrology is
called shadowplanets.) Ketu is a beheaded asura. It is important to remember that the planets are
grahas, seizers, they take hold of, grab, capture, particularly in times of eclipses, which are times of
inner transformation.

Ketu and the Moon

It is important to recall that where boundaries are concerned, Rahu is pushing the outer boundaries
and taking advances in territory, activity, karma, that is attractive. Ketu on the other hand is
maintaining inner boundaries and inner territory. Ketu may appear to have weak social skills, weak
social networks and somewhat isolated, if not mistaken for aspergers syndrome or autism. Beware,
those with conditions have very narrow, vertical spheres of information and knowledge which can
be astounding in their depth, breadth and grasp of their favoured territory. Do not mistake the
depth of Ketu for mental affliction and illness.

A Ketu – Moon conjunction happens every 29.53 days, that is, in every lunar month: this is
called gochara, transit. Interpretation of these transits depends largely on Vimshottari Dasha
running at the time, and more particularly, the Antar (bhukti) dasha; if it be Ketu, then close
attention to the transit is required. Recall that the bhukti affects the maha dasha and causes the
ruling planet to behave like the bhukti planet: the influence is strong.

A Ketu – Moon conjunction in the birth chart indicates emotional disconnection. It is very much a
separation of head and heart. There can indicate a tendency to lack of empathy and compassion; it is
a tendency, which has to be confirmed by other planetary placements and aspects. One’s character
is evinced by thought, word and action. While feelings may not feature in the process of decision
making, the inner resident is in the heart of the person, and it is from the inner resident, the
atmajyoti within that the intellect receives over 80% of its illumination and energy. Heartfelt
decisions can be made by persons with Ketu-Moon conjunction; they require more effort and
digging deeper, that is all.

Ketu conjunct Mars

The teaching in Vedic Astrology is Kuja vat Ketu, Ketu will behave like Mars. Ketu will be of pitta (fire)
dosha, and magnify a Mars-like impact on the sign or house it occupies or aspects, and like so on
planets it is conjunct or aspecting. Ketu is ever moving backwards in the birth chart, and takes 18
months to move through a sign. When we consider Ketu and Mars, we recall that Mars is the
Commander-in-Chief of the Army who will expend a significant amount of energy in pursuit of a goal.
Ketu would rather invest energy in pursuit of inner, aesthetic – and spiritual – goals. Mars conjunct
Ketu tends to be passive-aggressive event where inner goals rule over outer action, and the
outcomes can be somewhat incendiary; there can be a Pyrrhic victory, a war that is won that has no
spoils of victory; an empty victory on the outer and inner levels. Ketu can spend enormous resources
defending inner boundaries. When challenged in the outer world about pursuit of goals and the
driving motive behind actions, Ketu conjunct Mars appears to be vacuous, dissemble and be
manipulative.

Ketu and Spirituality

It is possible for Ketu conjunct Mars to produce a person of significant spiritual discipline and
mastery. Mars supplies external discipline and control over the mind, body and senses. (Recall that
one offers one’s tan (body), man (mind) and dhan (wealth) to the guru.) Mars supplies the external
self control over appetite, body, breathing, and adapts well to ashram or spiritual discipline. Ketu
explores the teachings, the power of maya, the veil that hides the Divine from one and all. It is via
this power of maya which is subjectively experienced that Ketu can objectify – discover the divinity
immanent in all that is – and pierce this veil of illusion that we are separate from the Divine.

Ketu in this instance is perfectly capable of being the monk in community, the monk in a solitary cell,
the renunciate, the sanyasin, the stylite living atop a pillar. Penance, sacrifice, self-discipline, the
path of asceticism and seclusion is well suited to the Ketu influence on the human person. (Much
depends on the placement of Ketu, who does not do so well in some signs and houses.) In this world
of frequent communications, it would not be surprising if the influence of Ketu were to make one
abandon (or lose and not care one whit about) one’s mobile electronic devices such as the
smartphone, the tablet, etc. Such is meaningless to the Ketu individual who seeks the inner paths.
Inner illumination and development and piercing the veil of maya requires that we spend up to 75%
of our time in self-inquiry. Think of Buddhist monks and their koans. Of what use are mobile phones
to such individuals?

Qala’at Samaan is the site of the remains of the early Christian monastic complex that developed
around the pillar of the famous ascetic and saint Symeon the Stylite (d. 459). During his lifetime,
Christian pilgrims travelled from all over the world to visit Symeon, whose ascetic practice included
standing on a platform atop a tall stone pillar for almost forty years.

Ketu is ruled by Chitragupta, the god who gives the full past life recall; sometimes called the
recorder of one’s deeds. Chitragupta is related to Yama, the god of death, who is also the god
of Dharma, the practice of righteousness, the following of right conduct. Ketu is the karmic
container, the repository of the karma selected for consumption in the current life. The supreme
deity of Ketu is Brahma, the giver of spiritual knowledge. As Jupiter is the outer guru in the external
environment of the human, Brahma is the inner guru in the internal environment of the human.
Pandit Vamadeva tells that at a higher level, Ketu relates the formless Brahman or transcendent
reality. Brahman pervades all that exists, and it is through the agency of Ketu driving inner, internal
self-enquiry, one comes to know that the invisible, formless Brahman is known as immanent and
transcendent in the material world of manifestation.

Where Rahu is materialistic, Ketu is detached; Where Rahu acquires friends, associates and makes
connections in order to propel himself forward and upward, Ketu has vague social networks and
does not presume to progress in the outer world. Ketu in the 12th house (especially Sagittarius or
Pisces) is an excellent placement for spiritual pursuits or long term sadhana comparable to Tapasya.
Ketu’s capacity for external disconnection aids management of the outward going mind, the desires,
the senses. Ketu in the 12th house (commonly called the place of bed-pleasures) experiences a lack
of sexual activity and cannot be disposer of bedroom delights as Venus can. Just so, Venus cannot
dispose what Ketu can give to the individual.

Help on the Ketu Journey

Due the weak social networking occasioned by Ketu, it is useful to have a learning partner on
whatever path one takes through life. On the spiritual journey, one has a spiritual director, a holy
listener, a guru, guardian, spiritual guide. In the mundane areas of life, learning partners can be
found at school, in higher education and in specialist learning groups. The function of a learning
partner is to listen, reflect, provide feedback, suggestions and re-assurance on the path chosen. One
is born in society and culture, which gives you your wealth, health, and education. All need
appropriate support on their stages through life; one does not reach the goal of life – or indeed,
one’s personal goals without the support structures of society and culture that one lives in. Our
parents are our first learning partners. We can have learning partners in every stage of the journey
of life, be it in family, at school, in relationships, at work, in recreation.

The down side of Ketu is gloom, despondency, lethargy, chronic fatigue, entropy. Ketu removes
whatever support structures that are within the person. The coat-hanger of seeing the world can
literally disappear. Ketu can be completely disconnected on a social level, often the outcast,
forgotten in mental institutions with long-term mental illnesses. Just as Ketu is disembodied and can
be disconnected from feeling and emotion, taken to extremes, this can result in complete
deprivation of intimacy, passion and commitment in any relationship. In such situations, remedies
for an afflicted Ketu – perhaps conjunct malefic planets in the birth chart – must be found and put
into place.

Thus ends the Armour of Ketu from Brahmanda Purana.

We have seen a lot of questions about Ketu raised by search engines which bring visitors to this site,
so we shall answer significant questions as we can from the perspective of Ketu as a karmic
dispositor, and therefore, a spiritual agent of true humaness.

Ketu and Sun conjunction

Ketu conjunct Sun is an interesting matter; the Sun (Sol) represents the Atma (Soul) - Sol
representing Soul suggests connection to light, flow of light and energy to the human person who is
made up of mind, body and spirit. Soul is spirit, body is energised by rays of the Sun (inside and out,
for the Soul is the inner Sun), and the mind is a bundle of thoughts, outward going. Without any self-
management or self-awareness, the mind-ego simply grasps, seeking to have all that it sees. (Watch
babies crawling on the floor in the kitchen, you'll get the idea.) Ketu is a point of disconnection and
transformation. So what happens spiritually when Ketu is conjunct the Sun?

Territory is a good word for Ketu. Ketu can start inner conflict over territory, myterritory, territory
of the other, and Sun indicates the other is the Father. So the territory of the Father (or parents) in
life is invaded due the weak boundaries of Ketu. Father – and Parents – are agents of the Other, that
is, culture, society, nation. Parents are pay-rents; we need to pay the rent of respect and gratitude to
parents for what they have given us: our head, our blood, our our body, our wealth. And that wealth
is our health, our education and our relations with society and culture. Territory is a key term here;
parents are within our inner territory and give us our gateway to external territory in life and society.

Ketu is in fact a driver towards release from the cycle of birth and death and rebirth - in other
words, Moksha, Liberation, Heaven. Ketu, shadow planet, darkens or bedims the light of the Sun,
light flowing from Sol to Soul; an interruption of light which causes emergence of transformation
from within. Ketu, the karmic container – which holds transformation and future action – is invaded
by the interruption and flow of light within from the Sun. This experience is the same as walking a
tightrope, another good word for the Ketu experience. The Ego walks a self-created tightrope of
spaces and personal inner safety. The Sun, however, is light entering within, and the conjunction is a
period of turbulence. Attempted disconnection from all and remaining in the darkness. The
tightrope of inner safety and personal space is where the light of transformation is aimed. The
transformation is more light emerging from withing. How does one cultivate the light and emerge,
transformed?

Four Great Secrets

Imagine that one day you noticed that you are closed in a dark and sultry basement. There is one
small window at the top of the wall. Some light sometimes gets in through a dirty glass. Some sounds
of steps and voices of people walking by can sometimes be heard from outside. You do not know how
you got in there. You do not know who you are or where you come from. You forgot all your past. You
do not remember anything.

Someone from outside sometimes visits you. Used to darkness, rarely only clearing into semi-
darkness, you do not understand what he talks about the world outside the basement and about all-
embracing Light that dominates there.

Raise your vision. I know how difficult it is for you to imagine another world, how difficult is to find
your own path. That is why I want to tell you a few secrets that you will easily use in the appropriate
time.

The first of them will concern your spiritual path. Know from today that if you only ask Me, I will take
full control over your development and will arrange your matters so that you tread this path in an
accelerated pace. It is enough that you utter the magic words ‘Do this, Master, please’ and I will
immediately take appropriate measures. This is going to be our first secret.

The second secret will concern your spiritual work. Undertake one of the meditations that were
described in this book. Ask your Divine Friend that He shows you the one that would suit you best.
Keep turning towards Divinity that is everywhere and in time you will feel Its response from you own
heart. For that is the place wherefrom I speak to people. You all are in Me and you all are Me – along
with plants, animals and the entire Cosmos, which is full of love and good.

Thirdly, speak to Me words of love, speak like to a friend, speak like to someone you love very much.
Ask Me to settle awaiting you matters My way. Ask that I take part in them with you and even
instead of you sometimes, for I can do also such things, and I indeed do them. This will be our third
secret: sometimes I will just do something instead of you. Think then that your deepest and most
loving Self, which continuously remains in unity with Divinity and which verily is It, has appeared in
your life and took over a part of your tasks, struggles and burdens. The third secret means that if you
keep focusing more and more often your attention on Me, and turning with love for Me, you will
enable My cooperation with you, action in you and through you.

The fourth secret is a crowning achievement of the previous secrets. Keep turning in focus and prayer
to loving Father-Mother with the request that He equips you with His powers of love towards God,
powers of happiness, joy and goodness. They will replace and remove from your body and mind all
the pollution that constitutes the walls of the described basement. With the passage of time they will
let you notice initially weak glare of Sun. You will understand then what people who paid you visits
were talking about – that you and loving Creator are indivisible oneness, the oneness in love,
happiness and deep devotion to the highest love.

A Message From Ketu

By Michael Laughrin, Michael@jyotish.ws

[As you may know, I can talk to the planets and other celestial bodies. Ketu wants me to give you this
message. - Michael]

I break things up. I will tear you down. I spit on your middle class values. I embrace the hippies, the
dropouts, the weird, the unwanted, the bums and especially those who have given up everything for
God (or Enlightenment or the Absolute).

There is a hidden trick to me -- how to get the best out of my dasha, my transit or my strong
placement in your chart. What I really want is your mind. Give it to me willingly and wholeheartedly
and I will let you keep your Lexuses, your houses and your mutual funds. Ultimately they don't exist
anyway. They are all Maya.

What is the short version of how to make friends with Ketu and receive the blessings of Ketu?
Meditate. Every day, without fail.

However, I see that my simple message is falling on deaf ears. For those of you who are all entranced
with the Relative, with Maya, your path is harder. Much, much harder. Whatever you are attached
to, I will take away from you: job, money, health, relationship, houses, fame, glamour, reputation --
that is, until you call out for the Ultimate Truth of the Universe with all of your mind, heart and soul.

I am the wild card of Jyotish. You can depend on my being undependable. I will trick you in a harsh
way. Jupiter teaches lovingly. I am sharp, harsh and even vicious if need be. I shock, hurt, kick. I often
remove all of your psychological underpinnings until you fall so that I (or God or the guru) can catch
you. I force you to transcend by whatever means necessary.

However, I also rule the celestial realms of light that are of the Essence of Heaven and heavenly
states of consciousness. I am the psychic, the seer, the medium. I am the voice of the Divine from on
high. In lower individuals, I am the psychotic, the black magician, the berserker. I am the force of
Kundalini gone wild. I am the best friend of the true meditator, the Seeker after divine knowledge,
the sadhu, the sannyasi. I give them their heart's desire (Liberation) or, at least, I give a healthy taste
of it. The worldly man is more afraid of Me than he is of any other planet (as well he should be). But
the spiritual man longs for my embrace.

Everyone who has left home or job or money or security for the Kingdom of God is blessed by me.
But I generally do not give my Lights, my Blessings right away. I must test you first. I am very strong
medicine indeed. Most of you could not handle my undistilled energy without going insane.
Therefore I give most of you only a little at a time until you can take the straight stuff.

Do not mess with me. Material happiness means nothing to me. Even life means nothing to me.
Moksha and ultimate Wisdom and true Knowledge mean everything to me. You must make a big bet
when you bet on me. Bet all your possessions, your heart, your Soul and your Sanity and I will give
you Spiritual and Material fulfillment beyond your wildest fantasies. But the giving up, the letting go
must come first. Seek first the Eternal and you may gain it and the Relative to boot.

I am mighty Ketu. Even the Sun and Moon fear me. Kings avoid me. Queens do not want to hear my
name. But, dear One, if you approach me humbly and sincerely for a long time, I will make you
whole and protect you too.

Om shri Ketave namaha.
