The Prokeimenon: The Lord will give strength to his people.Bring to the Lord, O sons of God, bring to the
Lord honor and glory.
Brethren, Christ is our peace, who has made us both one, and has broken down the dividing
wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law of commandments and ordinances, that he
might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile
us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby bringing the hostility to an end. And he
came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; for
through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer
strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the
household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself
being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy
temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
The Gospel According to St. Luke 12:16-21: The Lord said this parable: "The land of a rich man
brought forth plentifully; and he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to
store my crops?' And he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones;
and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, 'Soul, you have ample
goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, 'Fool!
This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?'
So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." As he said these things,
he cried out: "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
A Word: “This is what it means to be rich toward God: to trust that even if I empty myself and
give everything away, I will not lack the necessities. God is my treasury of good things and I
open and take from that treasury what I need.” (Blessed Theophylact)

This Week of Thanksgiving, We Thank You – With the love and generosity of our St. Spyridon family, we
collected 46 Thanksgiving boxes for the needy in our community and 20 boxes of pantry goods for St.
Innocent Orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico. The Thanksgiving boxes support our local House of Neighborly
Service, providing food for those struggling to have a traditional holiday meal. The pantry donations filled 20
boxes to support the Orthodox orphanage. The items have been shipped at no cost to us because of the
number of donations. St. Spyridon parishioners are fulfilling the call of Christ and our duty to help others.
P Philoptochos will continue to connect members of the parish to Christ and to one another through service to
H those in need.

L St. Spyridon is Helping Three Families in Need for Christmas – Our parish is supporting three local families in
O need this Christmas season. Check out our Adopt-A-Family tree right outside the entrance of the Gym-a-
P Church and take one or more ornaments that describe everyday items or “gifts” needed by these families.
T Bring your gifts back WRAPPED with both ornament tags taped to the gifts by Sunday, Dec. 10.
O You’ll be humbled to see what these families have asked for as “gifts”: primarily everyday items they cannot
afford, including household goods, personal care items, school supplies and warm clothing. If you are not

able to shop for gifts, please make a donation to the Poor Box and write Adopt-A-Family in the memo line.

Community Christmas Card supports Efforts to Buy a Playground Fence – Join Philoptochos in wishing our
St. Spyridon family a merry Christmas by participating in the 2017 Community Christmas Card. Proceeds will
support our parish efforts to purchase a play-area fence to keep our children safe. The cost of the fence is
$14,000. For $20 per family, $30 per business, or more if you can, your name will appear on the
community photo Christmas card that will be mailed to more than 150 parish families and friends. Forms
are available in a special Christmas basket in the Gym-a-Church. The deadline to submit your form and check
