Activities :

1. Determine patients nutritional status and ability to meet nutritional needs


2. Identify patients food allergies or intolerances
3. Determine patient food preference
4. Instruct patient about nutritional need
5. Assist patient in determining guidelines or food pyramids most suited in meeting nutritional
need and preferences
6. Determine number of calories and type of nutrients needed to meet nutrition requirements
7. Provide food selection while offering guidance towards healthier choices, if necessary
8. Adjust diet, as nessary
9. Provide optimal environment for meal consumption
10. Perform or assist uses well fitting dentures if appropriate
11. Administer medications prior to eating if need
12. Encourage patient to sit in upright position in chair if possible
13. Ensure food is served in attractive manner and at temperature most suited for optimal
consumption
14. Encourage family to bring patient favorite foods while in hospital or care facility as appropriate
15. Assist patient with opening packages, cutting food, and eating if need
16. Instruct patient on necessary diet modifications, as necessary
