Introduction
Domestic Violence is a serious and rapidly increasing problem in modern India. It is a great factor of concern in
the society and a obstacle in the road of development of individual and for the nation as whole.

• Domestic violence is creating of fear and gaining power and control in a relationship by a elderly person
through violence or abusing.

• Although both men and women can be abused, in many cases women and children are found victims.

Domestic and Emotional Abuse


• “type of abusive behavior by one partner that attempts to gain and maintain control over the other”.

• It including, emotional abuse, sexual assault, physical violence, financial control or social humiliation.

• Symptoms- Intimidation, fear, assault, shame and guilt to assert his complete authority over other partner,
lifelong scars.

Children and Family Violence


• In Family violence women and children are usually the victims and men are usually the culprits.

• In children and family violence, children are greatly affected, and doesn’t receive attention during their
growing age which is a very essential part in the process of building up good characteristics in children.

• It leads to unhealthy environment in home, daily quarrel, children building up criminal behavior, finding
difficulty in adult relation-ship

Alcohol and domestic violence


• Use of alcohol increases the rate of domestic violence.
• The use of alcohol increases the chance of partner abuse eightfold.

• Alcohol damages relationships. An alcoholic needs help else he can destroy his family and cause
psychological damage to his children.

• Children are greatly affected by alcoholic parents. They are also prone to physical, emotional and sexual
abuse.

Educated woman and domestic violence


• Women are passionate about being home makers. Where family or social pressure makes them bear the
violence.

• In several cases woman in spite having high qualification is subjected to heavy trashing or constant physical
and mental torture by stronger members of her family.

• What really stops a woman from approaching the police for law?

- fearing the life of her children.

- Lack of maternal support.

• Obsession for authority.

• Sadistic attitude.

• Psychological factors trigger the violent act.

• This may become routine behavior for abusive adult.


Control and preventions
• Indian Penal Code and the court of law.

• NGO’s working for women and children welfare.

• Initiations taken up by suffering women.

• Society must play important role to stop domestic violence

• Encouraging medical exposure for people suffering from violent behavior

CONCLUSIONS
Domestic violence in India is a major cause of concern. Keen interest must be paid on it to initiate control
measures over it . Creating awareness among children, teenagers, women and society is very important to save
the human race from its conflicting effects. It is the youth mass, who can play momentous role hence young
people, must join in hands and to put an end to Domestic Violence
