Peugeot Planet Diag

IMPORTANT: Since 26 July 2004, a call for assistance is only accepted if a session was run under
PPD.The technician can then obtain access to the tests conducted on the vehicle.
Taking a little time to carry out these tests could well save you several hours !

A few details ...

The Peugeot Planet Diag diagnostic software now contains the information required to identify an incident on the 307, 407 and
206 Mux vehicles. Some helpful information and utilisation recommendations are given below.

Symptom selection is broken down into the following three categories:

• Configuration check,
• Shortcut information,
• Guided diagnostic.

• The “Configuration check” function can be used to

analyse the telecoding of certain computers
(BSI, Engine Analysis Computer). The system automatically
checks your vehicle and confirms that the vehicle
configuration is compliant.

• The “Shortcut information” category contains

the cases reported and useful information. At present,
this information concerns the 206, 307 and 407.
When searching using a keyword, this information is
displayed as a “Case resolved”.

• The “Guided diagnostic” category contains the

diagnostic methods that will enable you to start from the
symptom and finally identify the element to be replaced.

And a little practical advice

When starting the diagnostic session, it is a good idea to start by checking the vehicle configuration. This will enable you to
eliminate any fault that may be caused by telecoding errors.

After checking the configuration, consulting the “Shortcut information” category will indicate whether your fault has already
been recorded in the network. If this is the case, a quick repair method will be proposed.

Finally, if your fault doesn’t correspond to a case already recorded, go to the “Guided diagnostic” category to identify the
element that is causing the fault.

In order to enhance methods quality, all the sessions are analysed. Therefore, you must completely
terminate your diagnostic sessions by answering the last questions (and, where applicable, clearing the fault
codes). If this is not done, your request for assistance cannot be taken into account.

Discover the 1007 diagnostic with PPS/PP2000:

The 1007 uses multiplexed VAN/CAN architecture.

The IAU and MAU are interfaced with various vehicle systems through multiplexed networks and using two protocols:

• The CAN: multi-master network at 250 Kbps, two-wire communication (CAN_High and CAN_Low).

• The VAN comprises the following networks:

- VAN CAR 1: master-slaves network (BSI is master ) at 62.5 Kbps,VAN two-wire communication,
- VAN CAR 2: master-slaves network (BSI is master ) at 62.5 Kbps,VAN two-wire communication,
- VAN COMFORT: multi-master network (MFS is master) at 125 Kbps,VAN two-wire communication,
(see diagram showing the 1007 multiplexed architecture).

Specific features of the 1007:
- New diesel injection:
The DV4TD engine (type 8HX) is equipped with Siemens SID 804 injection.

- A new controlled manual gearbox “2 Tronic” (for petrol versions), with two gear changing modes: the mode
known as sequential, either manual or pulsed, and automatic mode.
Clutch engaging and release and gear selection operations are performed by actuators that are managed by electronic
computers.

- Sliding door drive system (on the entire 1007 range).

The main specific feature of the 1007 is the adoption of a powered catch that finally closes the door, compresses the door
seals and ensures an excellent door fit in relation to the body.

- The electrical power assisted steering represents considerable progress, as it continually modulates the degree of
assistance, as a function of vehicle speed and independently of engine rpm.

- Automatic air conditioning, with an electronic temperature control system. This system automatically controls the air
flow, distribution and temperature, so that optimum user comfort is easily obtained.

7
The new 607 diagnostic with PPS:
The new 607 has the following distinguishing features:
- On the front, round fog lamps with chrome rims.
- Bumper and side strips matching the body colour.
- A 5-dial control panel with a larger warning/status screen and different needles.
- A 7” colour screen for the RT3 system, or a C- screen with RD4.
- A COM2003 installed, with controls under the steering wheel.

Identification by the VIN:

All the 607 evolution VINs start with 9U, while the 607 VINs start with 9D.

The new 607 diagnostic

After the 407, the 607 has also adopted an architecture entirely based on the CAN protocol. This facilitates access to widely
distributed electrical equipment and minimises the need to develop specific equipment.

The Intelligent Ancillary Unit centralises and processes data from 3 networks:
- CAN HS I/S: 500 Kbps, between the IAU and the dynamic computers in the engine bay.
- CAN LS COMF: 125 Kbps, between the IAU and the comfort network computers.
- CAN LS CAR: 125 Kbps, between the IAU and the bodywork network computers.

The Peugeot Planet System diagnostic package contains the upgrades for the new 607.
- The 607 is equipped with a new, latest generation, IAU.This new unit represents a considerable advance in terms of troubleshooting
as its perimeter of action has been broadened. Its response time is also significantly less than that of the previous 607.
The diagnostic socket is located as before, inside the central arm-rest.

A few specific features of the new 607:

• Electrical power is provided by a heavy duty battery (L5), which is now located on the LH side, in the boot.
• A new diesel power plant:
The 607 is the first vehicle to use the DT17TED4 AM6 engine (V6 HDI FAP, developing more than 200 bhp)
and meeting the requirements of the Euro IV standard. Siemens fuel injection is controlled by the SID201 computer.
• A colour C- screen is installed as standard, throughout the range. If the RT3 option is installed, this screen is replaced by
a 7’’ colour screen with a stereo video input in the glove box.
• The entire range is equipped with 4 electric windows with sequential operation and an anti-pinching function.
In the event of rain, with the automatic wiper function, all the windows close automatically (telecodable).
• The windscreen has a new rain, light intensity and tunnel sensor.
In the Intermittent position, the wiper frequency is proportional to the vehicle speed.
• The Vehicle Speed Regulator is installed on all the 607 and is coupled to the speed limiter.
For overtaking, there is a kickdown function (stiff point) on the accelerator pedal, that allows the selected speed to
be exceeded. This can also be achieved by operating the dedicated comodo lever. The function then has to be reactivated.
- The forward obstacle proximity detection (depending on the option) also implies rear obstacle proximity detection
and headlamp washers.
The forward or rear obstacle distance is displayed by graphic bars on the multi-function screen. Only on vehicles equipped
with forward and rear obstacle proximity (when leaving the plant).

How does Peugeot Planet interface (PPi) work?
This item is only mentioned as an example. Do not open
or remove the interface. This will invalidate the guarantee.

PPi provides the interface between the Peugeot Planet System (PPS) laptop and a vehicle in the Automobiles Peugeot range by
providing a dialog capability with all the vehicle computers.
PPi thus provides the “translation” between the PC languages and that of the PPS tool (PP2000, PPd, etc.).

PPi is directly connected to the 16-pin OBD socket, for those vehicles which have one, or through a 2-pin / 30-pin adapter cable
for earlier vehicles.
On the PC side, PPi is connected to the USB port on the Laptop.

What is inside the PPi?

The PPi contains two electronics boards and an OBD connector on a ribbon cable.

Let’s have a look at the two boards, to identify their main functions:

18
The core of the system is a 16-bit micro-controller.This is a miniature computer that performs all the computing and translation
between the vehicle and the PC.

The PPi contains a Flash memory and an integral CAN interface that allows it to communicate with the vehicle computers
(supports computer communication protocols (ISO 14230, ISO 15765, PSA2)).As for a normal PC, the RAM is used for temporary
data storage. The Flash memory contains the basic program that enables this micro-controller to operate. It is initially programmed
in the plant and is automatically updated with the new releases of PP2000.

The multiplexer is actually a switching table that, as a function of the pin assignments on the vehicle diagnostic connector,
automatically defines the type of signal expected by each pin of the PPi OBD connector (lines K, L, ADC, etc.).

You should not open the PPi board yourself. Doing so will void the warranty.

IMPORTANT:
With a PP2000 update, the Peugeot Planet interface Flash memory can be reprogrammed to enhance PPi
operation or to enable operation with new vehicles.
For this reason:
• When the Peugeot Planet 2000 program is run, PPi must be connected, as the PPi interface internal software
(firmware) is updated during the startup phase.
• When the Peugeot Planet 2000 software is updated using the CD-ROM, PPi must not be connected to the PC
(this is specified in a message before the update is executed).
• When the Peugeot Planet 2000 software is updated through Internet, PPi must remain connected to the PC.
This method of operation ensures that your PPi is always up-to-date and in line with the current vehicle
configurations.
Thus, the PPi is related to the PP2000 release that it is running, and a PPi that has been updated with a recent
release of PP2000 may not be compatible with another PC that is running an earlier release of PP2000.

PPi guarantee procedure:

What should you do if the PPi is apparently causing a problem?

New automatic telecoding of BSI
206, 307, N406, 407, 807, Partner, etc.

For YOU,
a new automatic operation
extremely simple to perform.

More than 200 parameters set up in less than 2 minutes…

History:
The BSI is the core of “full mux” vehicles. It manages or performs many functions throughout all the vehicle electronic
systems.
For the technician, this results in increasingly complex setting up, due to the greater number of parameters.

The 407 BSI has more than 200 parameters…

Therefore, to save a significant amount of time, and to avoid errors in the setting up process, we have redesigned
the automatic telecoding…

In practice:

Replace
or

To access this facility:
There are two access paths for automatic telecoding, when replacing or downloading the BSI:

configurations
and services
> BSI > setup > automatic
telecoding

Operation:
The Peugeot Planet 2000 software interrogates the vehicle and recovers, on a Peugeot server, the parameters to be telecoded,
as a function of the software installed in the actual vehicle, and not simply in relation to the factory nominal version.

Downloading the ECUs: review

The download operation should only be performed if absolutely necessary.

Thus, before downloading, you must check that the software that you are going to download actually provides the desired changes.

In addition, before any download, all system instructions must be executed.

These instructions include:

• Check that the vehicle is not in economy mode (if it is in economy mode, start the vehicle).
• Check that the vehicle battery is giving the nominal voltage.
• Connect the PPS laptop to mains power.(do not use the cigar lighter).
• All other applications must be closed and the anti-virus must not be running an analysis.
• In some cases, fuses will have to be removed.
• Never shut down or close the PPS laptop during the download operation..
If the screen remains unchanged, the download is still running. Above all. do not shut down the PC.
The screen will return to normal at the end of the operation.

Caution
If PP2000 indicates:
• a communication problem with a ECU.
• the message “ECU unknown”.
• “???” characters, indicating that the ECU software reference cannot be found by
the identification menu.
• a permanent communication fault with another ECU.
In these cases, the download operation must not be carried out.
Downloading should only be attempted if the line has been checked and if the
computer is fully functional.
The download operation only replaces the software of the computer concerned.

Important:
You must wait until the download is completely finished and then strictly follow the
instructions given by the PP2000 software.
In all cases, the Peugeot Planet 2000 software will indicate the end of the operation and
the PC screen will be updated.
As an indication, a download operation can take between 5 and 30 minutes and, in some
cases, apprentissage or telecoding may be required.

Circuit diagrams on Infotec

Since August 2004, an upgraded version of the chart is available on Infotec. It includes many new features
that provide quick and easy access to the information required by the user.

■ Meanings of the wire codes and harness codes (“Display code” menu).
■ Definition of the codes and transfer rates of the various multiplexed networks (“Connector information” menu).
■ Automatic generation of an e-mail indicating an error found on the site (“contact” menu, top-right).
This e-mail is used by Customer Support to instantly identify the route that generated
the error and thus correct it as quickly as possible.
■ Incorporation of circuit diagrams for earlier vehicles, that were previously only available in hardcopy format
(currently the new 106, petrol models of the 205, the new 306, the 806 and Expert (U64)
but the list will be extended !).

However, the most important new feature of this release is undoubtedly the managing of the VIN
(available in parallel with the DAM entry page).
This option eliminates the need for the tedious entry of options when browsing.
(Disponible actuellement sur 206 Mux, 307, 406, 407, 607 et 807).

Example on the 407:

NEW
Enter the VIN
of the vehicle concerned

Of course, the old method

of entering the DAM and the Vehicle
options can still be used.

23
When the VIN has been entered for the vehicle concerned, Infotec logs in to the CORVET@ server, to identify all the options
installed on the vehicle.
A summary page then asks you to check that these definitions are correct (Caution, only the options that affect the circuit diagram
are shown)

General characteristics
(DAM, Body, Engine, etc.).

List of options
not installed on vehicle.

List of options validated

on the vehicle.

If the configuration corresponds to the vehicle, simply confirm, which immediately gives you the breakdown by sector/function.
You can then browse on the site as before, except that no more questions will be asked.

Updating PP2000 by Internet

Why use Internet?

Internet updating keeps your PP2000 up-to-date between two issues of the CD-ROM.
The flexibility offered by Internet updating provides all the latest vehicle developments and changes, and the latest vehicle
diagnostic data (new onboard computer, etc.), as applicable to PP2000 (corrections, improvements, etc.).
Generally, an Internet update is issued every week, and sometimes more frequently, as may be required by
the current situation.

To keep your system up-to-date, it is recommended that the latest updates be checked and
installed every day.

How does the Internet update work?

When PP2000 is run, select “Update programs by Internet”.
PP2000 then logs into Internet and checks the availability of an update compatible with the release that you are currently running.

To start the download, confirm by .

The update starts running and you are informed of

progress:
• The number of phases varies as a function of the volume
of the update. The update is divided into packets of
24 Kb (i.e. one phase).
• The central progress bar informs you of the total
number of phases and the number of phases already
completed.
• The lower progress bar informs you of the status of
the phase in progress.

26
If the update is interrupted for any reason, you must restart the process.
However, all the successfully completed phases will be conserved (recovery).
PP2000 then computes the number of phases remaining and terminates the update.
When the update has been completed, you can display the contents using the Information menu, from the Main menu:

A WORD OF ADVICE:
When executing an update, you will only see the updates corresponding to your release
at the time you run the update.
We recommend that, after each update, you should go back into the “Update programs
by Internet” menu, to check whether another update exists for the release that you
have just updated (repeat the process until there are no more updates available).

Check that you are still connected to Internet. If you are still connected, try again, to confirm that the problem exists. If the
problem still exists, contact the assistance centre.
– if the message “Communication with vehicle not possible”:
Disconnect and then reconnect Peugeot Planet interface (USB port + vehicle OBD connector). Try the diagnostic on another
vehicle, to check that the problem still exists. If the problem still exists, contact the assistance centre.

Peugeot Planet 2000 (PP200):

PP2000 is taking a long time to start running. Double click on the desktop PP2000 icon, to run the application.
