MOVIE ANALYSIS: Transcendence

A. Was religion a part of the characters' life? How did this affect his belief and actions whether moral or
ethical in nature.
Religion in layman’s term is the belief in a superhuman as a controlling power. In Transcendence, Will was
actually trying to create a god, a new religion, in the form of advanced technologies. In the collective effort
of Will and other people to bring artificial intelligence to a higher lever, a new “religion” arose to oppose
their beliefs. This religion believes that technology is eating people and the world and that it shouldn’t
happen. Indirectly their beliefs are truly affected by the “religion” they have because they don’t really have a
god or something to worship upon.

B. Was there any violation in the part of morality and ethical standards in the movie? Defend your answer.
Issues arose when Will’s “consciousness” were transferred to PINN. In Evelyn’s despair she developed a
way for “Will” to be more concrete and identifiable. Only then, “Will” started to control the minds of
people, which is immoral in nature. The whole quest for a better world was rather unethical because
