CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
A. Background
In every educational activity, will not be separated from the evaluation activities. Without an
evaluation it is impossible to know the results of educational efforts, then all educational
activities are just useless, because we never know whether our education is successful or not,
good or bad, pass or not pass.
Evaluation is the final activity that must be done by the educator to know how far the mastery of
the material by the learners, or it could also be interpreted as a process to determine the value of
everything that has to do with the world of education.
The results of this evaluation will be used to take various educational decisions, but not all
evaluation results can be used and used to make educational decisions, because the results of the
evaluation is not necessarily in accordance with the intent and purpose, process and expected
results, .
Evaluation can be said good if it meets the three main requirements, namely validity (validity),
reliability (reliability) and practicality.
B. Coverage
Associated with the validity, it is necessary to test. In this case the researcher gives some
problem to test its kevalidannya namely:
Construct a multiple-choice test of at least 40 items, covering: Listening, Reading, Grammar and
Vocabulary (10 items for each).
C. Place of Try-Out
This try-out test took place at SMAN 1 Bajeng Kabupaten Gowa. The participants are Class
XII.IPA.5 year 2017 – 2018. In this case, because of the time available of the participants, the
writer can try-out the test to the participants in the class which consists of 30 students.

CHAPTER IV
CONCLUSION
After constructing and trying-out the test which consists of 40 items to 30 first
semester students of SMAN 1 Bajeng that covers, listening, reading, writing, and
speaking skills and also two language elements, grammar and vocabulary, the writer
analyzed and examined the items based on its data presentation, mean score and
standard deviation, reliability, validity, difficulty level, discrimination level and full time
analysis.
In this case, the researcher found that the mode of the students score is 9,
median is 7,1 for reading ; 6,87 for writing ; 7,73 for vocab and 8,20 for grammar. In
addition, the standard deviation of the scores from this try-out test is 1.13. To interpret
the test reliability ( r tt ), Sudjono in Jabu (2008)provides criteria. If the resulted
calculation ( r tt ) is the same or greater than 0.70, the evaluated test is highly reliable.
Conversely, if the resulted calculation ( r tt ) is smaller than 0.70, the evaluated test is not
highly reliable. In this case, the test reliability score ( r tt ) is 0.98 which is greater than
0.70. The reliability score indicates that the evaluated test is highly reliable.
After calculating the validity of the data (rpbi), there are three kinds of validity that the
researcher found from the data, as followings:
Good validity 1.5 – 3.0 = items number: 3 = 1 items
Medium validity 0.0 – 1.5 = items number:
2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,17,18,20,21,22,23,24,25,27,28,29,3132,33,34,36,37,38,
40 = 33 items
Low validity 0.0 and below = items number: 16,19,26, 30, 35, 39 = 6 items
Based on table of item discrimination, there are 34 test items that are improper
because they get below 0.40 score as the standard for the proper test item, and 6 test items
that are proper so they can be used for the future tests. The proper items get the score above
0.4. It indicates that the proper test items can discriminate between the intelligent students
and poor student. However, the writer needs to revise some of the test items with higher
discrimination, reliability and validity.
