A) Decisional Role

Entrepreneur
Managers have to produce and adapt to changes within the organization. They have to solve
problems, generate new idea or plan and implement them so that everyone in the
organization could move forward. For example, managers must implement innovations and
plan for the future.

Claudio Ranieri came up with many new tactics and strategies for each Premier League
game. He made sure his team were tactically ready and prepared for each team they face.
He worked on tactics and strategies every day. For example, he will order him team to do
what he wants for 10 to 15 minutes every day so that they can initiate the tactics perfectly
during the game at weekend. Next, in England the game is always in high intensity. Hence,
the players will be exhausted after each game. Claudio Ranieri adapted to it very well. He
gave his team Sundays off after Saturday matches, followed by light training on Monday,
hard work on Tuesday, then total rest on Wednesday. Thursday is back to being high energy
with Friday used for final touches and tactical work. This has helped his team to adapt to
the game and perform well every weekend. Lastly, Claudio Ranieri also plan for the future
by starting a project to promote youth players from the academy to the squad. He wants to
give the talented young players an opportunity to play in the Premier League. Hence, it will
help them to develop faster as a player. In the end, the club will be benefited from it as they
will have a bunch of experience young players of immense quality.

Disturbance handler
In this role, managers have to take charge when an organization face any disturbances or
problems. Managers also must be able to settle disputes and respond to pressure. For
example, managers have to settle conflicts between employees in the company and provide
many alternatives to solve a problem.
Claudio Ranieri was appointed as the new manager of Leicester City Football Club after
the ex-manager was sacked due to a collapse in relationship with the owners. Claudio
Ranieri was under immense pressure as he had to help the club survive from relegation for
another season and even further improve their standings in the league. It was tough and
challenging as the Premier League is the most competitive league in football. In spite of
that, he managed to overcome and respond to the pressure. He thought positively and came
up with effective tactics for each game. The pressure helped Claudio Ranieri to manage
every game better and thus, achieving excellent results. Not only did he ensured his team
safe from relegation, but also turned them into a genuine contender for the Premier League
title after first half of the season. After that, he also faced pressure when his team were on
course to win their first ever Premier League title. This is because there were two other
teams challenging for the title too. Despite being top of the league for majority of the
season, most people were still not convinced that Claudio Ranieri will be able to create
history and make the impossible possible. Pressures were piling up but that did not stop
him and his team from maintaining their momentum. It did not affect their performances
and they continued their winning streak. This is because of the advice given by Claudio
Ranieri as he demanded his players to give their absolute best in every game. He asked
them to concentrate and focus on themselves instead of the other teams. In the end, he
managed to defy the odds and created history by winning the Premier League title with
Leicester City Football Club for the first time ever. Besides that, Claudio Ranieri also faced
problems in his first season in charge of the club. At first, he faced lots of criticism because
of his past managerial job which was for the national team of Greece. It was his worst
moment as a manager as he did not manage to win a game and was sacked just after 4
games. Hence, many people doubted and criticized him in fear that the club will be
relegated under his management. However, he responded to the criticism positively and
promised to achieve something with Leicester City. Criticism towards him faded away
when he and his team were challenging for the title. He began to get acknowledged by
everyone especially the fans for this remarkable feat. Next, Claudio Ranieri also had to
settle a dispute involving two of his players. He took full responsibility and handled the
dispute professionally. In the end, both players were fined and banned from playing for 2
games as their punishment. All in all, his ability to handle pressure and problems definitely
play a part in helping them to win the Premier League title. Otherwise, they would have
falter like some of the clubs.

Resource Allocator
In this role, managers need to decide and determine the best way to apply the organizational
resources. This involves deciding who will get what resources and the amount of resources
they will get. For example, draft and approve of plans, schedules, budgets and determining
the staff’s salary.

Claudio Ranieri will decide the increment of the players’ salary when they renew their
contract based on their performance and ability. As for the new players, he will discuss
with them and decides the amount. For example, he decided to increase the salary of Jamie
Vardy, one of his star players from £40,000 to £80,000 per week after agreeing to extend
his contract. The decision was made by Claudio Ranieri after Jamie Vardy managed to
break a premier league record by scoring in 11 consecutive games. It was a remarkable
personal achievement by him. Next, Claudio Ranieri will decide the amount of money to
bid and pay for the players that he wish to sign. He will offer the club a specific amount
for their players. If they reject his offer, he will try again by increasing the amount. For
example, he offered Caen, a French club £5.6 million for N’Golo Kante. They were
satisfied with the bid submitted and hence, a deal is agreed for the transfer of N’Golo Kante
to Leicester City. Lastly, Claudio Ranieri also decided to expand the capacity of the
stadium. This is because the 32,000 capacity ground has been sold out for every game this
season and demand for tickets have been growing throughout the season. Hence, Claudio
Ranieri had to allocate some resources to expand the stadium to take the capacity to 42,000.
Negotiator
Managers need to take part in important negotiations within the team, department or
organization on projects, goals, resources and etc. Not that only, managers also have to
take part in negotiations outside the organization. Negotiations are important to achieve a
specific goal or keep the project on track for success.

Claudio Ranieri directed and took part in many negotiations within and outside the club.
After he was appointed as the new manager of the team, he negotiated with the board of
directors and set the target he has to achieve in his first season. The minimum requirements
for him to keep his job was to help the team avoid relegation and improve their standings
in the Premier League table. Claudio Ranieri agreed and accepted the target that he must
achieved in his first season in charge of the team. Besides that, Claudio Ranieri also
negotiated with the board of directors on the resources that will be allocated to him for the
transfer of players. It was important as he had to buy players and strengthen the squad so
that he can successfully achieve the target. The board of directors were willing to allocate
about £20-30 million to him after the negotiations in order for him to strengthen the squad.
Next, Claudio Ranieri had to take part in negotiations outside the organization. He had to
negotiate with other clubs to sign their players. He had to negotiate and agree with them
on the price of the player that he wanted. For example, he negotiated with Mainz FC, a
club from Germany to sign Shinji Okazaki. After further negotiations, Claudio Ranieri
managed to sign him after agreeing to pay £8 million for the player. Lastly, Claudio Ranieri
had to negotiate with the new players on their contract and wages. Both manager and player
have to negotiate and come to an agreement. For example, Claudio Ranieri negotiated with
Shinji Okzaki on his contract and wages. After the negotiation, Shinji Okazaki agreed to
sign a four-year contract and he will make around £60,000 per week.
