Learning Outcomes
Students should be able to:

organisations.
2. Conduct a research and to communicate information effectively in both oral and written
form.
3. Apply the subject models and frameworks in order to suggest solutions to management
problems.
4. Understand the underlying concepts and principles related to entrepreneurial activities and
their management.

**Group In-course assignment weighted at 50% with 15% of the total contributed by an
individual components (LOs 1 - 4)

Assignment Description

This assignment represents 50% of the total marks for this module; the assessment is marked at
100%. The deliverables are:
A. Group Written Report 70%
The report must follow the standard academic format:
• Font : Times New Roman
• Font Size : 12
• Spacing : 1.5
• Due date : 8 June 2016

B. Presentation 30%

This will be a group presentation but individually assessed. Each group member should be
allocated equal time to carry out his/her presentation, and must be present with the group,
absentees will not be awarded any marks.
In the individually assessed presentation, students may present additional content to their
contribution in the written report. However, this will not affect the assessment of the written
report.
Every member of the group should be prepared to answer questions on any aspect of the
presentation/written report. Each one should therefore be familiar, and be attentive, with
the whole group’s report.

Part A: Group Written Report

In a group of not more than FOUR (4) members, answer the below question in not more than
2000 words (word count for Report section only, exclude Introduction and Conclusion and
diagrams).

You are to attach a soft copy of your report in a CD with your written report when making
your submission at the designated date.

Requirement (Question)

Mintzberg's (1971) research indicated that all managers had a similar range of roles, irrespective
of their position.

Select an existing business organisation of interest to you, identify ONE manager (existing: past
or present). Discuss the roles carried out by him/her according to Mintzberg’s theory.

• Interpersonal role : figurehead, leader, liaison


• Informational role : mentor, disseminator, spokesperson,
• Decisional role : entrepreneur, disturbance handler, resource allocator, negotiator

Identify the managerial roles, explain the situation and relate your Manager’s actions to the roles.
Discuss whether your Manager was effective in contributing to the success of the corporation.
Marks allocated for providing evidence (pictures, news reports, etc) of actual situations.

Note:
• You need to consult your lecturer to obtain approval before working on the selected
organisation/manager.
• In your report, you are required to provide proper citations and follow Harvard Referencing
when making references to any external sources of information, theories, concepts and
frameworks.

The report should have the following content:


• Executive Summary
• Table of Content
• Introduction - Background of the organisation
• Report on managerial roles
• Conclusion
• References
• Appendices (if any)
• Group task report
