It is a common knowledge that president Rodrigo Duterte gave an order to intensify the campaign
against criminality especially against illegal drugs. In support to the campaign, the city government
here under the leadership of mayor Mauricio Domogan directed the Baguio City Police Office headed
by city director PSSupt. George Daskeo to be the forefront of the fight against drugs as well as
criminality. Daskeo disclosed that the BCPO has conducted 29 police operations for the period January
to June resulting to the arrest of 47 drug personalities with a total of P895,329.65 worth of illegal
drugs confiscated where 27 cases were already filed in court. “For the month of June alone, 24 police
drug personalities were arrested through the vigorous execution of OPLAN Eagle Claws formulated by
BCPO as part of our strategies against illegal drugs. It is also during this month that we arrested a
high value target listed in the Philippine National Police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency,”
added Daskeo. He added that just last month (July), 40 drug personalities were arrested wherein 25
cases of violation of R.A. 9165 (Dangerous Drug Act of 2002) were filed in court with a total of
P196,062 worth of illegal drugs confiscated. They were able to recover one caliber 45 and caliber 38 in
the possession of the said drug personalities. Further, the BCPO arrested a top drug personality in the
cordillera last July 28 confiscating 8.6 grams of shabu with a street value of P51,600; one caliber 45,
airsoft gun; assorted ammunition and drug paraphernalia. Out of the ten personalities listed in the
drug watch list that were killed, four were killed in legitimate police operations while the six cases are
under investigation. On the other hand, focus crimes in the city of pines has decreased by 25.33 % or
by 55 incidents last month compared last June which proves that the persons involved in crimes are
also involved in drugs, stressed Daskeo. The concerted effort of the BCPO as well as all stakeholders
in the fight against illegal drugs resulted to the voluntary surrender of 686 drug personalities. Said
personalities also signed their pledges of commitment to stop their drug dependency and trade. To
date, there were 92 pushers and 574 users that were identified and validated. Daskeo encouraged and
urged the public to smarter, stronger and tougher that drug criminals because drugs destroy lives,
tear families apart and harm the society. Moreover, as part of the fight against drugs, the city
government here is looking for possible resources for the conduct of random drug test to city hall
