Off vehicle battery power
Design considerations and component recommendations

Vehicle battery power defines the subsystem directly connected to the vehicle’s Design considerations
battery. These subsystems can be stand alone, in the form of a voltage • Devices connected to the vehicle
conditioning module (VCM), voltage stability module (VSM) or incorporated into battery rail need to have an input
a larger system such as a head unit or cluster. The VCM or VSM subsystem voltage of 36 volts or greater or
must provide reverse battery protection for the subsystems it powers, be able support load dump conditions.

TI’s “Jacinto 6” family of infotainment processors (DRA7xx), paired with robust software and ecosystem
offerings bring unprecedented feature-rich, in-vehicle infotainment, instrument cluster and telematics
features to next generation automobiles. The “Jacinto 6” family of system-on-chips (SoCs) smartly
integrate industry-leading ARM® cores; graphics accelerators; up to six configurable video ports;
eight multichannel audio serial ports; digital signal processor (DSP) core(s) to accelerate among other
software-defined radio, speech recognition and audio post-processing; high-definition video and multi
HD display support. The SoCs also incorporate TI’s Vision AccelerationPac including two embedded
vision engines (EVEs) that enable simultaneous informational advanced driver assistance systems
(ADAS) as well as the right mix of peripherals for automotive use cases. Additionally, “Jacinto” DRAx
infotainment SoCs leverage a common architecture for maximum reuse of hardware and software
investments and provide full solution interoperability so automotive manufacturers can customize their
infotainment solutions.
