Gabby DiNucci Letter to the committee (Catherine the Great)

Good evening, I hope this day has treated you well. My name is Catherine of Russia,
otherwise known as Catherine the Great. I suppose people call me “the great” because of the
ways in which I present myself and because of my great ruling skills over Russia in the past. I
am writing this letter to you in hopes of becoming the absolute ruler of Gib-Italy.
I believe that I am the absolute ruler that you need for Gib-Italy. I was born a German
princess and came to Russia to marry Peter III, which made me the heir to the throne. When I
was the heir, I made connections with the people of Russia and became a popular and favorable
person to the people. Therefore, when my husband died in 1762, I ascended to the Russian
throne due to my already favorable status. Some call me a ruthless ruler, but I believe that in
order to get the job done and rule over a country successfully you can not sugar coat situations,
you need to be up front.
Some accomplishments I have achieved during my rule over Russia was first that I began
state sponsored education for boys and girls. I was particularly proud of this because education is
very important to me and I was thrilled that I could partner with the state to allow boys and girls
to receive something as valuable as education. Also, Peter the Great tried to gain access to a
warm water port but never accomplished that goal. So when I became the empress of Russia that
was one of my top goals. I finally achieved access to a warm-water port on the Black sea which
increased Russias trade greatly because we could now import and export goods in the winter,
because the port was warm water and would not freeze over. As you can see, by gaining access
to the warm water port I am very resourceful and in touch with my surrounding and I will bring
new and creative ideas to the table in order to run Gib-Italy in the most professional way to get
the job accomplished. Not to mention that I was the longest-ruling female leader in Russia.
I heard that Philip II is also applying to be the absolute ruler of Gib-Italy so I would like
to state a few reasons of why choosing me is the right way to go. Many protestants did not like
Philip because of how he suppressed their faith. The last thing you want a ruler to do is divide its
people. I am all for unity, and Philip II was forcing religions on the people. For example, I
divided Poland in order to avoid fighting at all costs. I am always looking out for the people and
I believe that Philip lacks in that area. Also, Philip II created a Spanish armada in order to fight
off the English. The victory for the Spanish seemed inevitable, but due to harsh weather and
other disasters, the English overcame the Spanish armada. When this happened it led to decline
in naval superiority. This eventually led to the lack of a strong and effective leader in Spain. Gib-
Italy needs someone with quick decision making skills that can adapt to any scenario on the fly,
and that is me.
I would like to thank you for taking time out of your day to read this letter and I hope you
choose whatever works best for you. I truly do believe that if we worked together, Gib-Italy
could flourish and become something great. I am a girl that will get the job done, get along with
people, and hopefully get to become the absolute ruler of Gib-Italy.
