    Estimated completion date 31 May, but delays in
    granting permission held up project for months.
    Intervention by Premier Helen Zille and W. Cape
    110% Green initiative finally facilitated the go ahead.

    Right - e-khaya on moving day, demonstrating


    strength of arched self supporting insulated roof.
    Rainwater harvesting (ground tank still to be built,
    using sandbags), header tank on roof,
    unbreakable polycarbonate security windows.

    Left - No-one should have to live like this.

    Right - inside the e-khaya, with fully insulated


    walls, roof and floor - warm at night, cool by day
    and peaceful. Bright daylighting - set into the
    roof that 7 people are standing on! The roof is
    amazingly strong, yet amazingly low cost, and
    creates extra volume as there are no trusses or
    rafters

    heating (and adaptable for water
    heating), ‘hot box’ for cooking.
