Scope
The DuPont Optimize Feed Service is a series of online tools developed to support Danisco Animal Nutrition
customers, allowing them to capture the most value from our products.
This document provides a concise guide on how to generate matrix values and net savings for Axtra® XAP. It gives
guidance on how to change options and build diets which are used in the final matrix/contributions and cost savings. It
doesn’t outline how we have generated the matrix values and how to apply these, this information will be shared with
you via your Danisco Animal Nutrition representative.
Online services are accessible using Internet Explorer 9 or later, Google Chrome 20.0, Firefox 14.0, Apple Safari 5.1 or
Opera 12.0.

c. Protein – Corn protein content.
d. Fat – Corn fat content.
e. Dry matter – Corn dry matter content.
iii. Harvest region – Shows the averaged data for the regions selected.
iv. Custom Country Selection – Builds average data on a country by country basis.
v. Export PDF – Creates a document that can be saved, emailed or printed.
vi. Save – Saves the current example.
vii. Save As – Saves the current example.
viii. Load – Loads a previously saved example.
ix. Reset – Removes all data filters.

Year on year comparison graph
Below is an example of the graph shown when multiple years are selected.
Harvest graph displays the weighted means based on the country selection. Hover over the results to display the
mean and the mean +/- 1 standard deviation.
Below is an example of the results graph shown when a single year has been selected. When a single year is selected
it allows you to see the individual country averages for the region or the countries you have selected.

Table of harvest results
This is displayed underneath the results graph and it shows the values, the number of samples and their sample
country.

Axtra® XAP tool user guide
The Axtra® XAP matrix is based on the expected improvement in undigested nutrients when using the product. This
tool allows the calculation of undigested nutrient levels and the improvement in the presence of Axtra® XAP for
individual diets.

ii. Diet Builder
a. Diet Builder Mode.
i. Automatic – Uses ingredient feed tables to allow diet specification.
ii. Manual – Allows the user to specify undigested dietary nutrients.
b. Ingredient Database – Select either Brazilian feed tables or INRA feed tables as ingredient reference
sources.
c. Corn Harvest Error SD – When “use corn harvest data” is checked the entered value is the number
of standard deviations to add or remove from the average corn values.
d. Use corn harvest data – Allows the corn harvest data to determine the corn nutrient content and
digestibility for the energy contribution.
iii. Output
a. Show error bars on energy improvement chart – When checked the +/- standard error bars are
shown on the energy improvement chart.
b. Hide energy output from matrix – When checked the energy chart is not displayed.
c. Hide protein and amino acids output from matrix – When checked will only consider energy
contributions from Axtra® XAP.

Phytase Calculator settings
It is possible to combine Axtra® XAP matrix values with phytase matrix values. This section of the tool requires some
basic phytase tool settings.
iv.
i.
ii.
iii.
i. Inorganic P Source – Selects the inorganic P for cost savings calculations and to calculate the Total
P matrix.
ii. Phosphorus System – Allows the selection of Available P or Digestible P.
iii. Phytase Product – Select the concentration of phytase product.
iv. Phase Mapping – Use the drop down boxes to determine the growth phase of each Axtra® XAP
phase. The phytase equations works on a 3-phase growing pattern for the determination of amino
acid contributions. These phases need to map with the defined phases in the Axtra ® XAP tool.

Diet Builder
Use this tool to calculate the undigested nutrients in the diet. The undigested nutrients are used to calculate the
energy, crude protein and digestible amino acid contribution with Axtra® XAP.
The default database will be the Brazilian feed tables; if this selection remains unchanged the diet builder will be pre-
populated with some common diets. If you change to INRA feed tables all the ingredients will be removed.
i.
Remove ingredient
To remove an ingredient from all the diets list you can select the ‘-‘ button (i).
To remove an ingredient for a single diet, change the inclusion level to 0.
Add ingredient
a. Select the ingredient from the list and click the button ‘Add to diet’.
b. Enter the inclusion level for each of the diets.
When “Use corn harvest data” is checked in the settings menu the starch, fat and dry matter values for any
ingredient set as “corn” will be derived from the harvest data as set in the “Corn Selector” tab. This is
indicated with a warning triangle (shown below).

Create custom ingredient
It is possible to add new ingredients to the database, these can be shared with colleagues within the same company.

Calculate
This section of the tool shows the Axtra® XAP matrix values based on the input diets. It also gives an indication of the
cost savings possible.
i.
ii.
iii.
i. Species - Select the species of interest, this adjusts the standard enzyme inclusion.
ii. Enzyme product – Select the Axtra® XAP product concentration.
iii. Unit energy price – The price per MJ or kcal energy for the whole diet. (Value can be obtained from a
feed formulation package).
Enzyme inclusion
‘Multiple enzyme inclusion levels’ is selected in the ‘Settings’ tab under ‘Phases and Input’ enzyme inclusion
level:-
Checked - Different enzyme inclusion level can be selected for each phase, doses range from half to full
dose.
Unchecked – A single enzyme level can be selected for all phases, this option also creates a weighted
average.
Feed program
Enter the percentage of feed consumed in each phase. This is used to weight the overall feed cost savings
and in the weighted matrix (when a single enzyme inclusion is selected).

Matrix values
Matrix/Contribution – Switches between the matrix number (used for feed formulation packages and the
contribution (the actual nutrient contribution to the diet)).
Adjust Matrix Values – Allows the scaling back of matrix values.
Export as PDF – Creates a printable version of the matrix results.
Hide/Show Inputs - To simplify the view the inputs can be hidden.
If ingredients are missing nutrients these are indicated with an asterisk. The ingredient(s) missing these
values are listed in the amber bar below the matrix values.
If a nutrient only contains a contribution from Axtra® XAP (when phytase contribution has been added) a
warning will appear in the amber bar, the affected nutrient is identified with a superscript 1.
10/06/15 12
Adjust Matrix Value
This is where the phytase contribution is added to the Axtra® XAP matrix – this function allows the matrix values to be
scaled back either by percentage or by standard error.
Use the check boxes to remove the nutrient from the Axtra® XAP matrix and the sliders to adjust the level in
which they are included. Click the ‘Update’ button to add the phytase matrix to the Axtra® XAP matrix.

Contribution breakdown
This shows the final contribution breakdown of Axtra® XAP and Phytase to the displayed matrix values.
NB. These can be prevented from being shown on the PDF and on screen by checking ‘Hide energy output
from matrix’ in the ‘Output’ section of the ‘Settings’ tab.
