Motivation Letter

“We know next to nothing about virtually everything. It is not necessary to know the origin of
the universe; it is necessary to want to know. Civilization depends not on any particular
knowledge, but on the disposition to crave knowledge.”

Ever since my childhood I was instigated with the curiosity as to how different discoveries and
inventions changed the shape of the world. My schooling revealed my keen interest for
Mathematics and Sciences, and my consistent academic performances instilled confidence about
my capabilities. When I was doing Matriculation, our teachers arranged an industrial trip to
Refinery. During that visit many questions struck my mind like how this petroleum products are
produced? What are the processes involved? Etc. To answer these queries I did my
undergraduate degree in Petroleum and Gas Engineering. Moreover, I was selected in one of
best engineering institution of Pakistan i.e. University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore,
Pakistan to study Petroleum and Gas Engineering. My undergraduate education has provided a
thorough exposure to the various specialties available in Petroleum Engineering, thus
stimulating interest in advanced research.
In my undergraduate years, I've acquired a strong background in the fundamentals of the basic
Petroleum engineering subjects like Drilling, Reservoir, Production, Well testing etc. I did my
final year project in Well testing in Hydraulically fractured TGRs. well. I am interested in
innovative and cost effective procedures and research in particular fields which could be
beneficial to our industry. It developed my interest to study Drilling engineering, EOR
(Enhanced Oil Recovery) and Well testing as my subjects of my choice to study further in a
graduate program. In order to further gain my knowledge in my field, I have to upgrade my
qualifications since my profession needs such up gradation by staying in touch with new books
and internet. To me the practical Knowledge is also important before doing research in particular
fields. I did my internship in a reputed organization to enhance my learning curve and to have an
idea how things happen in different industries and recently I was linked with another reputed
Organization to acquire further skills and experience .When a person has a work experience he
can visualize the actual operation and process and can carry research in a better way.

I have chosen your institution in order to pursue my graduate studies because the strong
foundation, distinguished faculty and excellent infrastructural facilities at Norwegian University
of Science & Technology make the graduate program ideally suited to my academic goals. With
variety of courses and comprehensive set of electives your course structure is very appealing. I
always wanted to be a part of institution like yours, which has faculty comprising of eminent
scholars of international repute and provides a stimulating education environment. I believe that I
possess the basic aptitude, discipline and perseverance to sustain the motivation and drive needed
for a research career. I would like to end by saying that that I am fully aware that a career in
research and academics requires a high level of intelligence, unwavering dedication and a lot of
sacrifice. I am confident that I would meet all the above demands, and hence I appeal to the
Graduate Admissions Committee to consider me for admission.
