D3 Digestive Structures

Class: Biology 20 Date: November 9, 2017

Enduring Understanding:
The digestive system consists of organs enable physical and chemical digestion, and absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream.

Objective of Lesson (in own words):

Students will be able to name the parts of the digestive system and describe their function. They will be able to describe the process of
digestion.

Learner Outcomes (Program of Studies) Plan for Diversity

Students will: Visuals will be available for students (diagrams and videos)
20-D1.1k: identify the principal structures of the digestive[…] in order to allow visual learners to see the process of
systems; i.e., digestion. For ELLs, the PowerPoint presentation will
- Mouth, esophagus, stomach, sphincters, small and large provide them with the written terminology to avoid any
intestines, liver, pancreas, gall bladder misunderstandings from listening. At the beginning of the
20-D1.4k: describe the chemical and physical processing of class, the students get an opportunity to talk to their
matter through the digestive system into the circulatory system classmates in order to address any questions that may have
come up as they were working on their assignments. This will
help students who may be more hesitant to speak up in large
class discussion to ask their questions.
