D3 Digestive Structures

Enduring Understanding:
The digestive system consists of organs enable physical and chemical digestion, and absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream.

Objective of Lesson (in own words):

Students will be able to name the parts of the digestive system and describe their function. They will be able to describe the process of
digestion.

Students will:

- Mouth, esophagus, stomach, sphincters, small and large
intestines, liver, pancreas, gall bladder
20-D1.4k: describe the chemical and physical processing of
matter through the digestive system into the circulatory system
Visuals will be available for students (diagrams and videos)
in order to allow visual learners to see the process of
digestion. For ELLs, the PowerPoint presentation will
provide them with the written terminology to avoid any
misunderstandings from listening. At the beginning of the
class, the students get an opportunity to talk to their
classmates in order to address any questions that may have
come up as they were working on their assignments. This will
help students who may be more hesitant to speak up in large
class discussion to ask their questions.
