Dreams and Surrealism Represented in Cinema proof of concept presentation 29-01-18 Graeme DalyProposed Dessertation Enquiry For my dissertation |am going tobe exploring the psychology associated with dreams. want to explore the means of “neitic” dream sequences in cinema and why they are used 50 often in filmic storytelling to try and delve deeper into the subconscious context of characters and plot of the film. The history of dreams wll be explored with emphasis on dreams of the artistic theme of surrealism being explored. The psychology of dreams and the clinica history wil be delved into with the works and theories of Sigmund Freud being investigated along with Car JungProposed Chapter 3 Case Studies For my third chapter I wantto dig deeper into dreams with how dreams are represented in storytelling through a selection of films. I want to continue on withthe impact of dream sequences of films and analyse how the semiotics ofthe film show the characters psyche and the impact that the dream sequence has had onthe plot, I would lke to talk about the animation Paprika 2006) and talk about the impact that animation has with depicting dreams in which animation has no boundaries and how this has utilised the story. After paprika I want to talk about the film Mullholland (Drive 2001) is represented by a dream sequence that s difficult to grasp and seeks or gives no connection which represents dreams.
