Grading: Standard letter grade

Description: Description: Using a problem-solving based approach,

students will be introduced to the various aspects of website
production including requirements elicitation & analysis, design
specifications, image, video, audio, HTML, CSS, and
mathematical/logical programming using a scripting language such as
JavaScript. Through the use of interactive, hands-on sessions,
students will be able to construct a website that satisfies a specific set
of requirements. Meets General Education requirements for Computer
Science and Quantitative Reasoning.
Objectives:
By the end of this course a student should be able to:
• Discuss how a standard problem solving approach can be applied to website
design & implementation
• Discuss, in some detail, the fundamental components of a website production
process; this includes but is not limited to the following
o Requirements elicitation & analysis
o Design specifications
o Implementation using HTML, CSS, etc.
o Outcome evaluation
• Demonstrate the ability to construct a website of moderate complexity that
includes the following
o Text and images
o Audio and video
o JavaScript functions

Quantitative Reasoning Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course a student should be able to:
• Make judgments and draw conclusions about quantitative information while
recognizing its limitations
Apply a stepwise problem solving methodology in order to analyze a given quantitative
problem, identifying such elements as knowns, unknowns, and required mathematical
operations
• Use quantitative principles, theories, and methods to solve real world problems
Demonstrate the ability to solve a numerical problem by creating an appropriate set of
equations, and subsequently translating said equations into an algorithmic solution;
this includes but is not limited to the following types of problems
• Error checking
• Algebraic computations
• Numerical data analysis
• 2D graphics
• Apply appropriate computational procedures to solve problems
Demonstrate the ability to use a scripting language, such as JavaScript, to design and
implement functions based on algorithmic solutions to mathematical and logical
problems for incorporation into webpages
• Explain quantitative information presented in textual, visual, or notational
forms
Produce various charts, graphs, tables, etc., based on algorithmic solutions to
numerical problems
• Present quantitative information in a clear and appropriate form
Incorporate various charts, graphs, tables, etc., based on algorithmic solutions to
numerical problems, into a website’s design
