SUMMARY OF PEPTIC ULCERS

A. Symptoms
 Burning stomach pain
 Feeling of fullness, bloating or belching
 Fatty food intolerance
 Heartburn
 Nausea

Symptoms of peptic ulcers usually stomach feel burning. Empty stomach and
increased stomach acid. The pain gets worse during meals and at night. Not all people
with peptic ulcers show symptoms, they may be able to show more severe symptoms
such as :

 Vomiting or vomiting blood


 Dark blood in stools, or stools that are black or tarry
 Trouble breathing
 Feeling faint
 Nausea or vomiting
 Unexplained weight loss
 Appetite changes

B. Causes

Causes of peptic ulcers, helicobacter pylori bacteria, regular use of certain


pain relievers, and other medications. First, the helicobacter pylori bacteria can cause
inflammation of the inner lining of the stomach and cause this maag. This bacterium
can be transmitted from one person to another, by direct contact such as kissing,
through food and water. Second, regular use of certain pain relievers, and other
medications such as asiprin. Aspirin can irritate the lining of the stomach and small
intestine. Which include ibuprofen and naproxen sodium. Third, other medications,
such as the use of drugs with nsaids such as steroids, anticoagulants, low-dose aspirin,
selective serotinin reutake inhibitors, alendronate and risedronate. Can greatly
increase the chance of developing ulcers.
C. Risk Factors

Risk factor, altough you already drink severe pain medication, there is several risk
factor if you :

 Smoke, people who smoking infected with H. Pylori can increase the risk of
peptic ulcers
 Drink alcohol, alcohol can irritate the mucos lining of stomach and increase
amount of stomach acid
 Have untrated stress
 Eat spicy food

D. Complications
 Internal bleeding
Bleeding can occur slowly resulting in blood loss and even anemia or can also
cause severe bleeding then requires hospital treatment or blood transfusions.
Severe blood bleeding can cause black or bloody vomit or black or bloody stools.
 Infection
Peptic ulcers can perforate the wall of your stomach or small intestine, becoming
a more serious infection of your abdominal cavity (peritonitis).
 Obstruction
Peptic ulcers can lead to swelling, inflammation or inhibition of feeding through
the digestive tract. A blockage can cause full satiety, vomit and weight loss.

E. Prevention

Prevention in reduce risk peptic ulcer is to avoid the source of infection, it's
not clear just how H. pylori spreads, but there is some evidence that it could be
trasmitted from person to person or through food and water. Then you can take steps
to protect from infections, by washing hands with soap and water. Use caution with
pain relievers if you are not accustomed to taking pain medication. If you want to take
pain medication with peptic ulcer should use drugs such as an antacid, a PPI, an aid
blocker or cytoprotective agent.
