English Language Arts Math

Reading
This month our classes will continue researching
the American Revolution.
Students are exploring and researching historical
events on their level during the American
Revolution. They look deeply at a specific event
during that time period. They are determining main
ideas, hypothesizing and studying perspective.
By the end of the month, We will begin our test prep
unit to get students ready to take the ELA state
exam at the end of March.
We will continue to learn all about fractions. We
are learning how to find equivalent fractions,
common denominators, and put fractions into
simplest form.
Please continue to practice your multiplication
facts and division strategies.
Word problems are an important part of our
curriculum! We use the Problem Solving steps as a
tool to help guide the students through the word
problems

**Please make sure your children are reading for

30 minutes every night and recording it in their
reading log

Writing

During our writing workshop, We will continue to

write different types of compare and contrast
essays, focusing on comparing themes from two
stories. We will also be focusing on Non- Fiction
Narratives. We eventually come back to on Bringing
History to Life. In this unit, students are writing an
informational book, which includes four chapters.

Students are learning how to write a strong thesis

based on historical events and various points of
views. They support their thesis with reasons and
evidence from the text.

Students will continue to study the American February 14- Valentine’s Day- Wear Red or Pink
Revolution.
February 16-25 Winter Recess NO SCHOOL
Science
We will be studying electricity and magnetism in
preparation for the State Science test at the end of
May.
