Buy your hardware
Computer, projector, camera

The first step in creating your own Lumo Play projector is to get your hardware ready.

You can use any projector (if you already have one), but we’re recommending the exact same
type of projector we use in the Lumo Play projector prototype . If you use this, your floor will look
exactly like what you see in our videos.

We’re assuming you already have a computer. If you don’t, you will need either a computer
running 64 bit Windows (Win8 or Win10) or a Mac computer. Tablets and mobile devices will not
work.

To make it easy, you can go here to buy exactly what you need:

Before you get started
Choose the right place to set up
The recommended projector will cover an
area about 6ft (1.8M) across, and should be
mounted on the wall about 6ft - 8ft from the
floor (the higher the projector is, the larger
8 ft (2.4M)
the image will be on the floor).

So the ideal location for your Lumo floor is

an area where you have at least 6’ x 4’ (1.8M 6 ft (1.8M)
x 1.2M) of floorspace available.

You will need an outlet available to power

your computer and projector.

If you are using the Kinect for Xbox One it

will also need to be plugged in. 6 ft (1.8M)

It’s recommended that you have a shelf

or desk nearby where you can place your
computer or laptop.

can also run on a rechargeable battery, but it will not be as bright.

• You’ll need to connect the Web Camera or Kinect for XBox One (& adapter)

to a blue USB3 port, and also plugged in to an outlet).

Troubleshooting and Support
No camera input from Kinect for Xbox One

• Make sure that the Kinect for Xbox One is plugged into the adapter, and the adapter is
plugged in to a USB 3 port and a power outlet. Manufacturers often distinguish USB 3
connectors by blue color-coding of the receptacles and plugs.

• Make sure that the Kinect for Windows Runtime was installed correctly. You can download
the Kinect for Windows Runtime here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.

• Make sure the front of the sensor is not obstructed by power cords, computer cables, or other
objects.
