• Cut out magnetic notes for white board
• Rhythm Spiders (Hands that jump from knees to hands together. Quarter note = “do”
Eight note = “do de” half note = “Doooo” -two complete spider jumps)

Lesson Objectives:
• Students will be able to sing solfeggio following instructor “Do Re Mi etc.” Curwen hand
signs
• Students will be able to sing “Hello Song” English and Chinese
• Students will be able to use rhythm spiders to complete notated rhythm by peers. “Two
composers, two solos”

LESSON ACTIVITIES

Introductory Activity: Anticipatory Set (Activity that connects the new concepts/objectives to
previous knowledge):
• Students will work together to form a circle around the perimeter of the carpet singing
new circle song “Round and Round”
o Time allotted: 3

Body of the Lesson (Activities that teach new material/concepts)

• Students will sing solfeggio with instructor
• T will sing solfeggio to students around carpet using curwen hand signs
• S will follow guided solfeggio
• T will sing “Do re do mi do fa do so, la ti do^ do”
o Time allotted: 2

• Students will sing Hello Song


• T will sing “Hello. How are you? I’m Fine. Thank you. Hello to you.”
• S will repeat after teacher sings each sentence
• T will sing “Ni Hao. Ni hao ma? Wo chen hao. Xie xie. Ni ye hao”
• S will repeat after teacher sings each sentence
o Time allotted: 4

• Transition
• T will sing song locamotor and clap hands to beat
• S will follow, no touching or singing during this transition
• -this will become a freeze game
• T will stop singing at random points “Freeze”
• S will freeze
• S will tap nose, break legs, little hops, etc as T instructs within song

• Two students will compose and two students will sing solos for rhythm on board “Two
solos”
• T will call out who the composers and soloists will be based on previous weeks
• S who are composers will come up to board and pick out four pieces (Magnetic notes)
and place them in drawn box
• All S will get rhythm spiders out and as a group sing and use rhythm spiders to read
composition
• First soloist will use rhythm spiders to complete first composition on own, class will do
rhythm spiders, but not sing out loud
• Repeat for second composition and soloist
o Time allotted: 6-7

Concluding Activity (final activity of the lesson that that pulls together all of the concepts from
the lesson in a musical success experience)
• Students will review Peter and the Wolf
• T will discuss and review poster shown from previous class
• T will discuss instrument families and names of families
• Ms. Gascho will take over to continue Peter and the Wolf

• Assessment Activity/Assignment/Method:
-Asking questions during review. Have students show number by using fingers to confirm
beats or pieces. Two solos allows for individual assessment of composing and soloing.
