and Albany Times Union

NEW YORK CITY – Citing his national leadership and long record fighting to protect our streets
from violence, the national Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Jim and Sarah Brady
and Gun Free Kids today endorsed Eric Schneiderman for Attorney General. These major
endorsements come just days after Eric’s recent upstate “Justice on Main Street” tour and the
endorsements of the New York Times and Albany Times Union. Eric also recently received the
endorsement of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence.

“Eric is a real national leader in the fight to get illegal guns off our streets. From his efforts to
protect police officers and all New Yorkers from deadly weapons with his leadership in the fight
against illegal gun trafficking, Eric Schneiderman has fought for common-sense gun laws to
make it harder for dangerous people to arm themselves with dangerous weapons,” said Paul
Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign. “We enthusiastically support his campaign to
be New York’s top law enforcement officer.”

"Throughout his entire career, Eric hasn't rested in his struggle to rid our neighborhoods of
illegal guns. Eric is a national leader in the fight against illegal guns and he has never shied
away from a fight. When others might have backed down, he fought the gun lobby and helped
close the gun show loophole, advocated for microstamping legislation that would help law
enforcement solve crimes, and founded Legislators Against Illegal Guns. Having worked with
Eric Schneiderman for over 11 years, we are proud to endorse him as the single, best candidate
to keep our communities safe.” said Andy Pelosi, President of Gun Free Kids.

As the nation's largest, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun
violence, the Brady Campaign, with its dedicated network of Million Mom March Chapters,
works to enact and enforce sensible gun laws, regulations and public policies. The Brady
Campaign is devoted to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are
safe at home, at school, at work, and in our communities.

Founded in 2007, Gun Free Kids which provides tools for people to take action on pending state
and national legislation and assists voters nationwide in learning about and supporting state-
based candidates who favor sound gun violence prevention policies. Gun Free Kids has over
10,000 nationwide subscribers.

“As Attorney General, I will employ high-tech, multi-state strategies to fight illegal guns and
protect our schools, streets and communities from violence. I thank the Brady Campaign and
Gun Free Kids for these significant endorsements. Together, we will advance a smart-on-crime
approach to public safety, not the old conservative way that simply doesn’t work,” said lifelong
progressive Democrat Eric Schneiderman.

Eric is a national leader in the fight against illegal guns. Eric is the founder and co-chair of
Legislators Against Illegal Guns, a bi-partisan coalition of legislators representing suburban,
rural and urban districts from around the country, united by a shared commitment to public
safety.

Eric has worked to transform the criminal justice system with innovative, progressive and
smart-on-crime policies that keep our streets safe and our communities whole. At the height
of the crack epidemic, he was counsel to the West Side Crime Prevention Program, and evicted
crack dealers from buildings. He went on to train private-sector attorneys to help tenants do the
same.

“Eric Schneiderman is a fighter, and he doesn’t back down from powerful, bullying opponents
like the gun lobby,” Helmke added.

Eric will bring his progressive legal track record to the Attorney General’s office. He will use its
powers – particularly the specialized tools of the Organized Crime Task Force – to battle gun
smuggling and human trafficking. He will focus on the serious issues of actual innocence and of
adopting best practices in the criminal justice system.

As Attorney General, Eric will continue to advocate for smart on crime policies and progressive
reform of our criminal justice system on a state and national level. He will:

1. Use the Organized Crime Task Force (OCTF) to Attack Human Trafficking

2. Form an I-95 Anti-Gun Smuggling Coalition

3. Protect Children From Sexual Predators

4. Fight Gangs and Illegal Drugs
