As part of our interdisciplinary unit on architecture, students will be creating a museum
displaying architecture around the world. Students must choose a building and get approval
from Mrs. Kyle or Mrs. Boyce before beginning their research and project. This final product will
count as a test grade for both Language Arts and Math.
Part A: Research
Students are asked to locate the following information about their monument. Remember to
provide specific details about each topic. Research Resources should be cited using the format
provided on the attached paper.
● Name of monument
● Date built
● Geographic location
● Designers & builders (if known)
● Purpose of the structure
● Historical impact of the structure Why was it important in history?
● Architectural elements of the structure and their relation to mathematical concepts.
Students MUST include at least two of the following:
○ Use of angles (include types and definitions)
○ Use of Triangles (include type by angle and sides, and definitions)
○ Use of plane figures (include types and definitions)
○ Use of geometric patterns
○ Other math concepts (such as Golden ratio, Proportions, Fibbonaci ratio, etc.)
● Two Interesting facts
● Pictures of monument (big enough to see and analyze)
Part B: Creative Element
Students need to prepare a creative element representing the information found. Creativity is
key. Some project ideas include:
Mural Poem
Children’ s story Model
Collage or scrapbook Large Postcard
Poster Brochure
*** If students decide to use a different type of project please discuss with teacher ahead of
time.
Part C: Presentation
Students are expected to present their research project to the class. During the
presentation students should make eye contact with the audience and speak in a
loud, clear voice. Students should be knowledgeable and comfortable with topic.
Presentation might include a Google Slideshow, index cards, or a trifold, but it is
not necessary.
I have read and I understand the guidelines for the It’s a MonuMental Project . I
understand that the completed final project is a test grade for Math and Language Arts,
and is due in class on March 21, 2018 . The final grade will be penalized 10 points per
day late.
