Using Activated Economic Analysis

Activated Economic Analysis makes it easy to access key results from Integrated Cost Estimation.

Click the Economics button on the Activated Analysis panel after your simulation run is
complete to perform cost analysis. (You can use the Economics tab on the ribbon to specify settings for how
these costs are calculated.)
When you do so, Aspen Process Economic Analyzer calculates costs, and the button expands into a panel
displaying the results:

If there are warnings from economic analysis, such as some unit operations whose costs could not be calculated, a
yellow warning icon will appear on this panel (as shown in the example above).
Move the mouse pointer over the Capital Cost section to see a tooltip displaying the total equipment cost and total
installed cost. Move it over the Utility Cost section to see a tooltip displaying the costs for the three most
expensive utilities.

Click the Equipment Cost button to see a table of the equipment cost and installed cost for each unit operation
model, sorted in descending order by installed cost.

Click the Utility Cost button to see a table of the utility costs for each unit operation model.

Click to specify settings for flowsheet overlays. These overlays display green rings around the blocks on the
flowsheet with the highest operating costs. By default the 3 highest blocks are highlighted. You can specify 1 to 10
highest cost blocks; specify operating cost, capital cost, installed cost, or weight as the ranking mechanism; and
turn off the display of the rings completely.

Click the bar on the bottom of the panel to see the Investment Metrics: operating profit, payout period, and return
on investment.
Click the launcher in the Capital Cost to see the Summary tab of the Equipment grid, displaying a more detailed
breakdown of the capital costs.
Click the launcher in the Utility Cost section to see the Utilities tab of the Equipment grid, displaying total usage
and total cost for each utility.
