1.0 Product/equipment standards

FLSmidth is committed to providing its customers with quality products which meet
customer expectations, contract specifications, industry standards and relevant
statutory requirements.

In fulfilling this commitment on a global level the design and manufacture of

FLSmidth equipment is based primarily on International Standards (ISO, EN),
supplemented as appropriate by national standards (DIN, BS, etc.), and where
applicable, by acknowledged engineering rules and regulations of the industry
concerned. Derogations and reference to mandatory national regulations may be
specified in the Contract.

Reference to International Standards or specified national standards in the Contract

are understood to be references to the edition applicable on the Quotation date,
unless stated otherwise.

If new applicable International Standards come into force after the Quotation Date,
FLSmidth gives notice to the Buyer and (if appropriate) submits a proposal for
compliance. In the event that the Buyer determines that compliance is required and
the proposal for compliance constitutes a variation, FLSmidth shall initiate a Variation
Order.

Reference by FLSmidth to any International Standard does not incur an

obligation on FLSmidth to provide any recipient, reader or user of the
documentation with samples or copies of the said Standard(s).

Hence, any recipient, reader or user of the documentation is expected – at his

own cost – to obtain necessary knowledge of the contents of any of the
International Standards referred to herein.

FLSmidth does not undertake any responsibility or liability for injury, damage or
losses inflicted upon any recipient, reader or user of FLSmidth documentation or
a third party by the failure by any receiver, reader or user of FLSmidth
documentation to obtain any necessary knowledge of the contents of any of the
International Standards referred to herein, nor does FLSmidth waive any right to
hold a receiver, reader or user of FLSmidth documentation responsible for any
injury, damage or loss inflicted upon FLSmidth as a consequence thereof.

The edition of the standards indicated in any documentation is that valid at the time of
publication of the documentation.

2.0 EU Directives and Safety Standards

FLSmidth is committed to the delivery to all customers of products/equipment

that meet the essential health and safety requirements laid down in relevant EU
product/equipment directives (These directives specify EU mandatory essential
requirements, and only products fulfilling these requirements may be placed on
the EU market). FLSmidth equipment must always comply with these essential
requirements.

The following new approach product/equipment directives are observed:

 On Machinery (2006/42)
 On Potential Explosive Atmospheres (ATEX, 94/9)
 On Pressure Equipment (97/23)
 On Low-voltage Appliances (2006/95)
 On Electromagnetic Compatibility (2004/108)
 On Simple Pressure Vessels (87/404)

Directives, as 2002/95 (RoHS) on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous

substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) which restrict marketing
and use of certain dangerous substances in EU, will as far as feasible be complied
with globally.

Safety standards and especially harmonised safety standards contain guidelines

for compliance with the essential requirements. Compliance with the standards is
voluntary, but the application of harmonised standards implies a presumption of
conformity with the corresponding essential requirements.

The following gives a short presentation of how FLSmidth approach and apply
safety standards covering risks related to EU product/equipment directives.

As an exception minor derogations from a default standard may be the case

under certain circumstances due to well-founded reasons. Situations like that will
be dealt with in equipment documentation in order to safeguard the prescribed
level of safety.

Due to market conditions a default standard may be substituted by another

international standard having the same relevant scope and providing at least the
same level of safety.

2.1 Machinery safety standards

The listed standards are harmonised standards linked to the Machinery Directive
(2006/42) – unless designated “NH” as being a non-harmonised standard.

Equivalent international standards (ISO) are mentioned in brackets.

Section 2.1.1 lists the important machinery safety standards (according to number) of
significance for FLSmidth compliance with the Machinery Directive in general.

Section 2.1.2 lists equivalence between EN and ISO standards.

Section 2.1.3 lists the standards mentioned in section 2.1.1 according to content -
omitting standards that are only of a more general informative character.

Where the level (B1: safety aspects, B2: systems and safeguards or C-standard) is
mentioned, it is repeated here.

When the standards refer to specific parts in annex I of the Machinery Directive (the
essential health and safety requirements), it is repeated here.

The standards are divided in the following principal groups:

1. Risk assessment (and general standards)

2. Ergonomics
3. Hazards
4. Functions
5. Equipment and installations
6. Lifting gear

Some of the groups are further subdivided.

Each standard is mentioned by:

- Number, including draft number if under revision

- Abbreviated title
- Comments (if any)

Section 2.1.4 lists FLSmidth default safety standards applied for being in compliance
with the Machinery Directive.

2.2 Explosive atmosphere safety standards

The essential requirements of the Potential Explosive Atmosphere Equipment Directive

(ATEX, 94/9) are primarily focussed on avoiding effective ignition sources (see 2.2.3).

When the possibility of an explosion has to be accepted which for example is normally
the case when handling coal dust, mitigating measures must be implemented in order
to eliminate the health and safety risks (see 2.2.4). In these cases (with normal
operating pressure less than 0.5 bar) FLSmidth design is based on the use of
explosion resistant equipment and explosion venting protective systems according to
ATEX standards as listed in 2.2.4 (EN 14460 on Explosion resistant equipment links to
the EN 13445 series which are harmonised standards according to Directive 97/23 on
Pressure Equipment).

The below listed standards are harmonised standards linked to the ATEX Directive
94/9 – unless designated “NH” as being a non-harmonised standard.

Whenever relevant for equipment, risk and chosen integrated explosion safety
method, FLSmidth applies the listed standards.

Zone classification standards contribute to the estimation of the likelihood of an

explosive atmosphere being present and to the EU customers’ compliance with the
requirement of the ATEX user Directive 1999/92.

2.2.1 General standards

EN 1127-1 (B1) Explosion prevention and protection

2.2.2 Zone classification standards

2.3 Pressure equipment safety standards

The essential safety requirements of Directive 97/23 on Pressure Equipment include

some obligations concerning the equipment manufacturing process which may involve
approval procedures performed by a “competent third party” recognized by an EU
Member State. Conformity assessment procedures like that cannot be fulfilled as a
general rule outside the EU area.

Compliance with the essential technical safety requirements of the directive is based
on the following standards (when relevant):

EN 10028 series: Flat products of steel for pressure purposes

EN 10213 series: Technical delivery conditions for steel castings for pressure purposes

EN 10216 series: Seamless steel tubes for pressure purposes – Technical delivery
conditions

The essential safety requirements of Directive 87/404 on Simple pressure vessels

comprise welded vessels manufactured in series for more than 0.5 bar overpressure
intended to contain air or nitrogen and not intended to be fired, which is a
manufacture outside FLSmidth activities.

When FLSmidth deliveries include simple pressure vessels the technical content of the
essential requirements will be complied with based on the following standards:

EN 286 series: Simple unfired pressure vessels to contain air or nitrogen

EN 1011 series: Welding – Recommendations for welding of metallic materials

2.6 Electromagnetic compatibility safety standards

Directive 2004/108 on Electromagnetic Compatibility lays down a few basic essential

requirements regarding the level of electromagnetic disturbance that may be
generated by the equipment and its level of immunity towards electromagnetic
disturbances. Several harmonised standards facilitate the compliance with these
essential requirements.

FLSmidth does not manufacture equipment falling under the scope of the directive but
such components may constitute important parts integrated in or connected to
FLSmidth deliveries.

Equipment falling under the scope of the directive and forming parts of FLSmidth
deliveries will as a default option comply with the following harmonised standards
(when applicable):

EN 60034-1 Rotating electrical machines

EN 60204-31 Safety of machinery – Electrical equipment of machines
EN 60439-1 LOW-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies
EN 60947-1 to -3 and -4-1 to -4-3 and -5-1 to -5-3 and -5-6 and -6-1 and -2 Low-
voltage switchgear and controlgear
EN 61000-3-2 and -3 and -6-1 to -6-4 Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
EN 62040-2 Uninterruptible power systems (UPS)
EN 62053-21 and -22 Electricity metering equipment (a.c.)

Note:
The above-mentioned EN standards are equivalent to IEC standards having the same
number.

The following standards mentioned in section 2.1 “Machinery safety standards” are
also harmonised according to this directive:

EN 617 Storage of bulk material

EN 618 Handling of bulk materials except fixed belt conveyers
EN 619 Mechanical handling of unit loads
EN 620 Fixed conveyors for bulk materials
