- Tools (i.e. work bench, power supply, alligator cables , MultiMeter… etc)
- Setup lab kit.
- Introduction to breadboard.
Week 2 Introduction to ICs: (circuit 1%) N2083
- What is an IC?
- IC pin numbering and orientation.
- IC datasheet
- Placing the IC in the breadboard.
- Applying power and ground to an IC.
- Proper wiring
- Wiring conventions (i.e. color coding, straight lines, 90o angle.. etc)
- Reading a schematic design for a circuit.
- Using a debugger board
Week 3 Wiring a circuit: (circuit 1%) N2083
- Wiring & checking a logic chip - 7400 Quad NAND.
- Hooking up an LED to provide output.
- Hooking up a dipswitch to provide input.
- Using logic gates and deriving truth tables.
Week 4 Introduction to Altera Quartus II: N2095
- Drawing a schematic for a circuit.
- Designing a waveform.
- Simulating your circuit.
Introduction to the lab projects.
Week 5 Using Altera Quartus II: (lab task 2%) N2095
- Designing and drawing a logic circuit.
- Designing the waveform.
- Simulating the circuit.
Due: Lab project topic.
Week 6 Introducing encoders: (circuit 2%) N2083
- Building, wiring and debugging a circuit using an encoder.
- Using a keypad for input.
- Using the debugger board for troubleshooting a circuit.
Due: Project Phase I (1%)
Week 7 Introducing decoders: (circuit 2%) N2083
- Building and wiring a BCD to decimal circuit using a decoder.
- Using a 7-segment display for output.
Week 8 Introduction to CPLD N2083
- Implementing Combinational Circuits using a CPLD.
- Downloading to PLD-44 board.
- Wiring the input and output pins.

Week 9 Introducing multiplexers: (lab task 2%) N2083
- Designing and drawing a multiplexer circuit using Altera Quartus II.
- Designing a waveform.
- Simulating the circuit.
