motivated us to create, with confidence,
a knowledge centred environment
coupled with effective learning. We are
firm believers that both teachers and
students are learners and in a subject like
Management where the means,
processes and crisis- management
defines the end result, the inputs from
young minds is extremely crucial. The
information and knowledge generated
through discussions, including case
studies has been the focal point this
year, evidently causing a perceptible
difference in interest of students,
spurring more participation.
The aim of the BMS course was to
foster the spirit of Entrepreneurship
among the students and every year the
E- Cell tries to achieve this aim through
the various workshops, idea generation
seminars and competitions. This has
resulted in some students taking first
steps towards entrepreneurship..
Reliance Money and current MD and
Entrepreneurship, so the Department
festival Zephyrus, was dedicated to
encourage the same. The 3-day festival
took place on 16th, 17th& 18th. January
2014. The eleven events were in keeping
with the theme, ‘Innovation in Young
India’.
The festival saw 400 participants from
20 colleges across Mumbai participating
in eleven spectacularly-crafted events,
ranging from a stimulated stock
exchange, to managing and customizing
a football team à la FIFA; as well as for
a plethora of talks conducted by a
brilliant line -up of speakers like TEDx
Speaker and Co-founder of the World’s
first fully featured Android Smartwatch-
Mr. Siddhant Vats, Dr. Pawan Agrawal-
Management guru and speaker at
Microsoft, VOLVO, HCL India . Mr.
Ashishkumar Chauhan- CEO and MD of
the Bombay Stock Exchange also had a
session on finance.
Zephyrus ’14 also hosted a panel
discussion on the General Elections
with panelists: Mr.Sudip
Bandyopadhyay erstwhile MD of
CEO of Destimoney and Mr. Nachiket
Kelkar, Assistant Editor of Hindustan
Times; with a bid to give the audience
a fresh perspective on the economic,
social and cultural aspect of elections
and predict influence of domestic and
foreign players on Indian markets.
Zephyrus ’14 brought out its Greek
meaning(The Winds of Change), by
delivering innovative ideas through
discussions on business scenario in
India.
The Board of Studies played a crucial
role in the last academic year by
upgrading the syllabi and in auditing
the entire course curriculum and the
evaluation mechanisms.
Our association with CII and their
youth wing Yi has been a way of helping
our students to understand and
experience the realities of corporate life.
Young Indians (Yi) being a subset of the
confederations of Indian Industries (CII)
aims to reach out to India’s youth
through social development
programmes. The BMS department
collaborated with Yi to host various
events getting a great response from our

students including other departments.
This was encouraging for the team to
scale greater heights in future. The
BMS department – Yi association is a
perfect intersection of socially driven
entrepreneurial students.
The Honours programme this year was
a series of workshops and interactive
sessions aimed at improving the decision
making ability of the students. The
resource people were both academicians
and industry personnel.
Lessons learnt beyond the classroom
are as crucial as those acquired in
one,making an industrial visit
important, as it enables students to
acquire an insight into the working
reality of an industry.
The Students of the Department
of Management Studies (including
Second as well as Third Years)were
fortunate to visit Bangalore and Mysore
in the month of October 2013 as part of
their Annual Industrial visit. . The
students were taken to the bottling plant
of Bisleri and to one of the major
breweries of the UB Group, where they
were given a live demo of the processes
involved in the production of their
products, including minute details of
collection of water from the bore wells
to its final packaging and distribution
This enabled the students to get a
firsthand experience of the functioning
of a factory.
Under the Cross Faculty paper the
department now offers a paper in the
field of Financial Management:
“Management Accounting and
Investment &Portfolio management”
This course is open to the Science
Commerce
students of the college.
This year we also introduced the Book
Club called “ The Page Turners”
where a series of sessions by various
authors were held. This club is open to
all the departments and we got a great
response.
Out of the 80% final year students that
registered for placements, 90% got
placed by June 2014.The remaining
20% of the students who did not
register with the placements will be
pursuing their post graduate degrees in
Management.
It was by the grace of God that our
efforts and endeavours were
successful and we strive to raise the
bar higher every year.
