Curriculum Development (BGSU)


Programs
First-Year Writing. Collaborated with program faculty and administrators to revise the
General Studies Writing Program curriculum. Work included revising program and course
learning goals, developing first-year writing courses informed by current best practices
from writing studies research, such as the WPA Framework and threshold concepts of
writing studies; and initiating efforts toward program name change.

Minor in Professional Writing. Collaborated with faculty in Rhetoric and Writing,


Scientific and Technical Communication, and General Studies Writing to develop a two-
track, 15-credit hour undergraduate minor in professional writing. Work included course
development for a track in Writing for Public Contexts.

GSW 1110: Introduction to Academic Writing. Revised syllabi for graduate teaching
associates enrolled in the Fall 2016 and Fall 2017 composition practicum courses.

Emphases include extensive, large-scale revision; reflective writing and metacognition;


rhetorical principles; and writing research as course content.

GSW 1120: Academic Writing. Revised syllabi for graduate teaching associates enrolled
in the Fall 2016 and Fall 2017 composition practicum courses. Emphases include
researched writing, source credibility and integration, citation practices; conducting
research on writing through empirical and/or library methods; revision, and reflective
writing.

WRIT 1110: Seminar in Academic Writing. Designed syllabus for General Studies

principles, audience/context awareness, and digital and multimodal writing.

ENG 6020: Composition Instructors’ Workshop. Designed and taught (Fall 2017)
composition practicum course for graduate teaching associates in their first semester
teaching for the General Studies Writing program. Emphases include writing theory and
praxis; teaching writing studies research as content in first-year writing; teaching writing
as community-based practice; and embodied performance of teaching as experiential
learning.
