THE RELATIONS OF SMOKING HABITS TO THE HYPERTENSION
CASE IN SOCIETY HEALTH CENTRE OF TEBET SOUTH JAKARTA
2015

The prevalence of hypertension in the world is 1 billion people with 9.4 million
deaths every year.The survey result of WHO from 50% patients with hypertension
are knownonly 25% who received treatment, andonly 1.5% were treated well.
Based on the cause, hypertension is divided into two groups are namely essential
hypertension and secondary hypertension. Number of patients with essential
hypertension is 90%, while the number of patients with secondary hypertension is
5-8%. WHO mentioned, 40 percent of developing countries have patients with
hypertension, whereas developed countries have 35% patients. In Indonesia, the
number of patients with hypertension reached 32% in 2007 to the age range 25
years old. Number of patients reached 42.7% of men, while 39,% are women.
Whereas according to Riskesdas 2013, The Province of Jakarta ranks 11th in case
the number of patients with hypertension.
Objectives : To determine the relations of smoking habits to the hypertension
case in society health centre of Tebet South Jakarta in 2015
Methods : The method used is analytic. The population in this study is the
whole adult patients who came and went to the society health centre of Tebet on
December 2015 with a sample of 85 persons.
Results : The number of respondents in this study is about 85 persons. The
analysis results of the smoking habit variables associated to the hypertension case
are found that there is relation of long term smoking to the hypertension (P Value
0.000), there is relation of cigarette types to the hypertension (P Value 0.000),
there is relation of cigarette number to the hypertension (P Value 0.000), there is
relation of knowledge about smoking to the hypertension (P Value 0.000).
Conclusions : There are significant results from the relations of long term
smoking, cigarette types, cigarette number, and knowledge about smoking to the
hypertension case.
