1. Define the term Internet

The Internet is global computer network providing a variety of information and


communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized
communication protocols.

2. What is the World Wide Web, when was it created, and how was it created?

The World Wide Web is an information system on the Internet that allows
documents to be connected to other documents, enabling the user to search for
information by moving from one document to another. It was created in 1989 by Tim
Berners-Lee, and it was created originally to allow the sharing of information between
scientists in universities and intuitions around the world. However, it was the invention
of the “Transmission Control Protocol” and “Internet Protocol” (TCP/IP) by Vinton Cerf
that introduced distant and different computers to each other in a virtual space.

3. Describe network in terms of the class computer lab

Network is a group or system that allows for the interconnection of people or


things.

4. What is a browser? Give one example

A browser is a program with a graphical user interface for displaying HTML files,
used to navigate the World Wide Web. An example of a browser would be Google
Chrome.

5. What is a search engine? How is this different from a browser?



A search engine is a program that searches for and identifies items in a database
that correspond to keywords or characters specified by the user, and it differs from a
browser in that a browser you use to access the internet while the search engine points
you to the right direction.

6. Give an example of a database

8. What is phishing?

Phishing is the fraudulent practice of sending emails stating to be from reputable


companies to induce individuals to reveal personal information.

9. What is SHOUTING?

When text information is in ALL CAPS

10. What is a bookmark or favorite? And how do you create one?

A bookmark or favorite is an internet shortcut; Navigate to the page you'd like to


bookmark, Right-click on a blank portion of the page and click Add to Favorites or press
Ctrl+D, Name the bookmark and select the folder in which you want it saved, and Click
Add.

11. Create a classroom policy for Internet use during classroom time. Must be a
minimum of three sentences

Internet usage is to be of classroom purposes only. When the instructor is speaking, the
computers are not to be used, unless otherwise told. Nobody will use the Internet to
harass, bully, or cause harm to other individuals.
