INDRAPRASTHA SANSKRITI KALA KENDRA, DWARKA SEC-11


(SITE AREA- 18.5 ACRE)

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to develop six socio-cultural centres in the capital
to promote and train artistes in visual and performing arts. The centres will be developed in the
existing district centers of Sector-11 in Dwarka, Rohini, Netaji Subhash Place, Pitampura,
Shahdara, Mayur Vihar, and near Sultan Ghari Tomb in Vasant Kunj.
There is a need to create distinct socio-cultural hubs at different parts of the city to promote
and train for performing arts and cultural practices. The current central hub exists at Mandi
House, where several performing art centres and galleries like Triveni Kala Sangam, Lalit Kala
Akademi, National School of Drama, Shri Ram Centre for Performaing Arts are situated. As
Dwarka is beginning to rapidly commercialize, it will require a world-class socio-cultural centre
in the coming days.
The site is next to the Dwarka Sports Complex and close to Dwarka Sec-11 metro station.
According to newspaper articles, the complex is intended to include 5 blocks as follows:
• Centre for visual art
Will have a contemporary art gallery, sculpture gallery, workshop area, ancillary areas
• Centre for performing art and recreational area
To comprise auditorium, rehearsal room, cinematography room, recording room, seminar
rooms, conference halls, spa, indoor sports facility, aerobic hall, swimming pool, etc.
• Administration and library block
It will have children’s library, reading room, interactive audio-video spaces and administration
offices
• Convention center
To house an auditorium, business center, seminar rooms, meeting room, conference room,
multipurpose room, restaurant, etc.
• Residential area
It will have guest rooms/ suites, kitchen, restaurant
“A lot of emphasis will be laid on creating green areas. We plan to have terrace gardens in the
building blocks. Interlinking pedestrian courtyards will be created for all buildings, connecting
them with the natural landscape. The center will be disabled-friendly” said an official.It should
be built on the lines of IIC and IHC in Lodhi Estate
