I. Objectives
 Determine the working application of a hydraulics door of silo.

 Familiarization of the components or equipment of a circuit diagram

of door silo including another component

 Design and draw a circuit diagram for a hydraulic platform.

 Learning to adjust the piston movement including stoppage at any

certain point of the extension of the piston

II. Introduction

Vertical elevators are the only current workable systems people use to fill

grain silos. Since most structures are tall, it's impractical to use inclined conveyor

methods to fill them. Bucket elevator systems require high initial investments, but

they provide an efficient way to load grain into a silo. Some farmers use blower

systems to blow grain into silos, but these are only practical when storing grain for

livestock. Blowers are not suitable for grain sold on the market because grain

cracking is too high. Older tower silos may contain a distributor that spreads

incoming grain uniformly. Hydraulic doors are now used to modern silos to transfer

the load from the storage to loading chute the to the truck. Hydraulic power is

utilized to power the Doors of the loading chute of the silo.

III. Application
Crushed rock is loaded onto a truck from a large storage silo. The
operator must be able to control the rock by opening and closing the doors
on the loading chute. It must be possible to stop and hold doors in any
position.

VI. Functions

Double Acting Cylinder – a cylinder that has a two port at each end by
moving the piston in a extend and retract action

4/2 Way Hand Lever Valve – Is used for the control of hydraulic flow rates
and is actuated manually. Also, it acts as the lever that makes the double
acting cylinder extend and retract. Used for the control of volumetric flow
rates, this valve is actuated manually and engages in three positions.
Characteristic of this valve, apart from its method of actuation, is that port P
and T are connected in the mid-position.

Shut Off Valve – a valve where the oil flows regulate; it has a switch where it
can be off.

Pressure Gauge – an instrument to measure and indicate the pressure or

fluid intensity of the system.

Pressure Relief Valve – it protects the pump by regulating the pressure of

the medium coming to the system and limit the pressure in the system.

Hydraulic Power Pack – it is the power system of the hydraulics; Converts

the primary drive source into a hydraulic fluid flow. It is composed of a pump,
motor, pump, gauge, switch and etc.

One Way Flow Control Valve - The valve is used to influence the
volumetric flow rate through an adjustable throttle point, in one direction.
VII. Procedure

1.) Lay out the different sizes of hose to be use in the experiment. And even

prepare the pressure release key in case needed

2.) Set up the components based on the circuit diagram. Familiarization of

the components must be applied

3.) Make sure the hose of the pneumatic circuits is snog and tight for safety

purposes.

4.) Connect the one-way flow control valve in the port P of the hydraulic

pump.

5.) Apply the previous component such as 4/3-way lever the four ports in

the pressure gauge and connect it to the port P of the 4/3 way hand lever

valve just like what is shown from the circuit diagram.

6.) From the circuit diagram connect the port a of the 4/3-way hand lever

valve to the left of the double acting cylinder

7.) From the setup of pressure relief valve connect it to the port P of the

pressure gauge and connect it to the Port T for return.

8.) Turn the power hydro power pack and manually move the 4/3-way hand

lever to see the extension and retraction of the piston

9.) Observe also the extension of the piston whether you can control it in

either extension or retraction or stop position.

IX. Evaluation

In this experiment, our group design a hydraulic system for a door

silo using a 4/3-way control hand lever. The components use in this

application is the same as the previous components such as double acting

cylinder, 4/3-way hand lever valve, pressure relief valve, shut off valve and

etc., It can adjust the speed of the extension and retraction of the cylinder.

Such that the double acting cylinder produce a motion of retraction and

extension which the control may use stoppage at any point of the movement

using the lever manually operated.

X. Conclusion

Therefore, I conclude that a hydraulic door silo operates by a

Hydraulic system which make the door operated manually by a hand lever

which control retraction and extension and including stoppage at any point

of the double acting cylinder. It is operated by a 4/3-way hand lever valve it

implies a door mechanism that use for storage operated by hydraulic

system manually operated according to this experiment.
