Task  2  Guidelines    
 
 

For  this  task  you  should  choose  one  of  the  musical  extracts  (2A,  2B  or  2C)  in  the  Assessment  
Task  folder  on  Moodle.    

You  should  annotate  (write  on  the  score)  information  on  the  following:  

§   The  starting  key  and  any  subsequent  changes  of  key  

§   The  harmonic  structure  by  labelling  all  chords.  You  may  use  Roman  numerals  (e.g.  Vb

or  V )  or  absolute  chord  notation  (e.g.  Bm)  as  you  prefer.    
§   The  start  and  end  points  of  phrases  
§   Labelling  all  cadences  (e.g.  perfect,  interrupted  etc.)      

Ensure  that  your  annotations  are  neat  and  legible.  You  are  welcome  to  use  colours  etc.  to  
assist  with  presentation.  If  you  are  unable  to  fit  your  information  on  the  score,  then  you  can  
submit  an  extra  sheet  with  the  information  on  it  using  bar  numbers  to  indicate  your  information.    

You  may  also  submit  an  additional  piece  of  text  of  200-­250  words  to:  

§   Summarise  structural  features  of  the  musical  extract  (e.g.  form,  motif,  repetition)  
§   Describe  textural  features  (e.g.  imitation,  melody/accompaniment,  types  of  polyphony,  
voice  leading)  

You  must  submit  your  analysis  electronically  using  the  submission  link  on  Moodle.  If  you  have  
handwritten  your  annotations  you  should  scan  and  submit  the  document  as  a  pdf.  To  create  
a  pdf,  use  one  of  the  scanners  in  the  library.  By  selecting  ‘send’  on  the  scanner  you  can  send  
the  pdf  to  your  email  account.  (Ask  the  library  staff  if  you  require  assistance,  and  make  sure  
you  don’t  leave  this  step  the  last  minute!)  Check  the  pdf  before  uploading  it  to  ensure  that  all  
of  your  information  is  visible  to  the  marker.    

The  deadline  for  this  task  is  2pm  on  Monday  9th  January  2017.
