Just a note to mention that my business broke up with Facebook
(https://www.nutsandboltsmedia.com/why-my-business-is-breaking-up-with-
facebook/) and no longer has a fan page. However, this tutorial still works and
you’re welcome to set up a Facebook page for your website or blog if you want!
Creating a Facebook fan page for your blog can be anxiety-inducing, especially if you’re
trying to keep your real identity separate from your blogging identity. However, it

trying to keep your real identity separate from your blogging identity. However, it
doesn’t have to be complicated – once you see how easy it is, you’ll wonder why you
waited so long.
First of all, let me tell you that it’s okay to be logged into your personal Facebook
account when you create your fan page. When I made my rst one, I was terri ed that
my last name, personal pro le, or other information would be linked to it. After setting
it up and testing it from my son’s pro le, though, I learned that I was worried for
nothing. If you set it up with a different email address, it will be much more dif cult to
manage because of all the logging in and out.
Second, while some people like to set up a regular Facebook pro le with their blog
name, it’s better to set up a fan page. That way your fans can “like” your blog without
having to add you as a friend, and the page functions will be easier to control.
Okay, with those tidbits out of the way, here’s what you do:

2. Click on Brand or Product in the upper right box. You’ll be prompted to choose a
category.

category.

4. Type in your blog name under the Category dropdown box, check the box to
agree to Facebook’s TOS, and click Get Started.

brand – no worries if yours doesn’t! It really depends on whether you consider your
blog a business or brand, but answering “no” is ne if your blog is just a hobby.

6. Next you’ll be prompted to upload a pro le picture. If you have a logo, this would
be a good time to upload it. If you don’t, feel free to skip this step – you can always add

7. Add your page to your Favorites. This option will place a link to your fan page in the
left sidebar when you’re signed into Facebook. It’s totally optional but makes it really
easy to nd your page later!

8. You’ll be taken to your page, which has the admin panel across the top. Feel free
to explore the various settings and options. There are all kinds of prompts to help you
understand what to do.

9. You’re all done! There are some other things you’ll need to do, like mention your
Facebook fan page on your blog, with a link or button so people can go “like” it, but
other than that, your fan page is all set up and ready for you to post.
TWO MORE THINGS: When you visit Facebook from your personal pro le, your blog
page will now show up in the navigation on the left. All you have to do is click to view
your page and the noti cations speci c to the page.
Also, when you post something on the fan page, it will show up as your blog name, not
your real name. However, if you are going to visit another page or pro le and you want
to comment from your blog name instead of your personal pro le, you’ll need to go to
the top of the screen, click the little gear icon on the blue Facebook bar, and select “Use
Facebook as [blog name].” To switch back, go back to the blue bar, click the down
arrow on the far right, and choose “Use Facebook as [your name].”

I blog anonymously and chose to create a separate Facebook to host my fan page. I still haven't
been able to successfully post directly from my blog to my fan page instead of the update
ending up on my dummy Facebook persona (though I also haven't tackled it lately), so I made
the right choice for the moment. Speaking of which, any tips on that?
So when you go to your fan page and do "post status", it's posting as you instead of your
blog name?

Do you know if you can designate noti cation emails to go to another email address? I like to

fb noti cations.
Seriously can't believe I'm trying to do this after midnight. I must be crazy. Well it's up for what

Thanks for breaking this down nice and easy. A face book fan page is an absolute MUST for
anyone who is looking to build a brand for them self or a product. Love the layout of your blog
as well, very clean and professional looking. Best of luck in everything you set out to achieve!
Something that I think I gured out. I didn't want my posts on my FaceBook Blog page to show
up on my FaceBook personal page. At rst they did and then I realized it was because I "Liked"
my Blog page and that linked them. So, I "unliked" and that xed it. At least I hope so…..
Really great breakdown. I've recently been trying to create a Facebook page for my own blog.

Facebook really hasn’t done a good job of working with people who want to separate

I’m not sure I understood your question – are you asking about putting a Facebook like

What a great article. I wonder if you can help me with something I have continually struggled to
do. I set up my Facebook blog page some time ago in the same manner as you have suggested.
However, my problem is how do you set up a Followers page for the blog pro le. It only gives
me the option to add a Followers page to my private identity. I am trying to keep my private
identity separate to my blog identity but would like to know how many followers I have on my
Facebook blog page. Hoping you may have the answer or if not a means of nding the answer.
Many thanks. Lesley
Hi Lesley,
https://www.nutsandboltsmedia.com/how-to-create-a-facebook-fan-page-for-your-blog/ 20/37
9/6/2017 How to Create a Facebook Fan Page for Your Blog
I’m not sure I’m understanding your question. You can create a Facebook fan page from
your personal FB account without linking it to your blog page in any way. I was
anonymous when I did my rst Facebook fan page, so that was a big concern for me.
If you absolutely do not want to risk it, you would need to set up a new Facebook pro le,
then create the fan page while logged into that pro le. Of course, I have to mention that
it’s a violation of Facebook’s TOS to do that and they could opt to shut down the new
pro le at any time. However, I can assure you that using your existing personal pro le is
safe and your real name won’t be anywhere on the fan page. Hope that helps!
Thank you for your quick response. I have now turned on followers. But I am still wondering if
I am confused as I cannot see a Follow Me button on my Facebook blog. I thought that it
would display a Follow Me button on the Facebook blog and give viewers who had found the
page the option to follow that page whereby it would show up on their home page when I
added a new post to the Facebook blog. Am I mistaken in this assumption? Am I getting
confused? I know that on my personal Facebook that I have updates show up on my
homepage from Companies whose pages I have LIKED in the past. I don’t know exactly how
that happens. Does that mean that people who have liked my page get updates from me on
their homepage. I hope I am making sense and I am sorry if I am sounding stupid. I nd
Facebook very confusing.
Okay, here’s what happens now. When someone “likes” your Facebook fan page, they
will see whatever you post to the fan page in their newsfeeds. So, for example, you
can set up a service that will automatically update the fan page every time you have a
new post on your site. Anyone who has liked your Facebook fan page will see that
https://www.nutsandboltsmedia.com/how-to-create-a-facebook-fan-page-for-your-blog/ 21/37
9/6/2017 How to Create a Facebook Fan Page for Your Blog
new post on your site. Anyone who has liked your Facebook fan page will see that
update. Or you can post a status just like you would from your personal account and
your followers will see that as well.
You can also add a Facebook button to your blog sidebar that people can click on to
like your page. There are lots of plugins that will set that up or you can just use a text
widget and an image. If you look at the very bottom of this site to the left of the footer,
you’ll see my social icons that people can click on to follow me on all my social media
accounts. Hopefully that makes sense!
And now I’m even more confused because it looks like you have a pretty healthy
Facebook fan page already – https://www.facebook.com/SewHappy.Me
(https://www.facebook.com/SewHappy.Me)
Thank you Andrea for your time in replying. It seems that I must already be doing everything
right then. I have obviously confused myself with thinking I needed to add a followers option. It
is so dif cult to understand what others are seeing on their pages. Thanks for all your help in
clarifying things in my head.

It looks like you’re sharing links from your personal pro le instead of your fan page.
When you want to post something to the fan page, just visit the fan page URL in your
browser and post from it directly. You can also set up a service like dlvr.it that will post to
your Facebook fan page automatically when you have a new blog post.
So what you mean is if I open a like page on facebook, I can start blogging and get paid?
Well, not exactly. The two have nothing to do with each other. You can start a blog, and
you can also start a Facebook fan page for your blog, but they are separate things.
Neither one is a guarantee that you’ll earn money.
Thank you so much! Was trying to make one but wasn’t sure what category to go under… Your

Hi Jay,
Try this – “like” the page from your personal pro le, then log in as the fan page and view
your likes. You can add your personal account as an admin for the page. Once you do
that, you can log in from your personal pro le and remove the other identity as a page

Just read all the comments from the beginning. Thanks. I’m thinking to add a Fan page for my
new blog. Two questions: 1) I already have a Fan page for artwork that I post. Am I allowed to
have another one for my blog, according to FB? 2) What about recent changes where it seems
FB is making it harder to have your Fan page show up without ‘boosting’ it with ads….do you
have advice on how to handle this (which I don’t think was the case when you rst posted the
cool directions for setting up a Fan page in 2012). Thanks for any help.
Hi Sherry,
Yes, you can add another fan page. I have multiple websites and 6 different FB fan pages
linked to my personal account, so that’s no problem.
As for the recent changes, I probably need to write a post. Personally, I’m backing away
from Facebook and focusing my energy more on Twitter and Google+. For awhile you
could get more views of your posts by posting a status, then putting the link in the rst
comment, but I just read an article that said FB is going to start cutting back on exposure
for those as well. Basically, it seems that unless you’re willing to pay for ads, there is no
guarantee that your fans will see your posts (even if they want to). I think it’s really
disgusting on FB’s part and I’m willing to walk away at this point. I’ll keep auto posting
new blog posts there, but otherwise I’ll engage with my audience and clients on
networks that let people make their own decisions about what they see and what they
don’t. (Whew, got a little ranty there!)

Thank you for the tips. I started my blog in December and I’ve been going back and forth on

Hi Christine,
It sounds like you’re installing a plugin to show the Facebook like box – instead, try using
this tool: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/like-box-for-pages/
(https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/like-box-for-pages/)
It will generate a code that you can paste into a text widget in your sidebar, and there’s
no app ID required. Hope that helps!
Hi Andrea great information very helpful best that I can nd. I was wondering if you can help me
I am trying to use a plugin for facebook and my wordpress.org to feed my posts from my blog to
my facebook page and they keep telling me I need to be a developer. So I signed up to be a

Oh, okay. I misunderstood what you were trying to do. Visit http://dlvr.it (http://dlvr.it ) –
it’s a service that will post to your FB fan page automatically (as well as Twitter and
several other services). It’s very easy to set up and doesn’t require the developer stuff.
Is a fan page the same as a facebook page? And so I just follow the steps you stated in your
article and create my page. I did my page with my facebook pro le and got nervous so I

Dlvr.it has a free option – on their pricing page, it’s listed below the pricing tables.
Oh ok thank you I will try it. Thank you for all your help and responding so quickly.
You’re welcome! 🙂

Hi, I am setting up a business Facebook page, but I want to put in my own category, as none of
the options on the scroll down list is appropriate. I did put in the most relevant to get myself
started, but now can’t nd a way to put in what I actually want.
Thanks, Gill
Hi Gill,
Unfortunately you’d have to take that up with Facebook; to my knowledge they don’t
allow you to enter a custom category. I’m surprised that nothing on the list would be
relevant since it’s a pretty extensive list.
Wow – super helpful!!! I just created my page and I think I got it right:) Just a shell now, check it

Hey,
I want to have a fan page for my blog as you describe. My question is how do I invite friends to
follow it without revealing my identity as the writer of the blog?
Hi Lisa,
Honestly, I’m not sure it’s possible to invite friends to like the page without them guring
out that the page belongs to you. It wouldn’t say that anywhere, but if I saw a
noti cation that said “Lisa invited you to like this page” I would assume you were
involved with the fan page somehow.

Hi Andrea,
I am wondering if your views have changed on using fb for a fan page. I am considering it but
after reading your comments on the changes over the years im kind of leary about using it.
Hi Kim,
I shut down my fan page last year I believe… With all the changes Facebook has made,
you basically have to pay to advertise to your own followers or else no one sees your
posts. It just wasn’t worth the investment!
I just used this tutorial to setup a Facebook page for one of my niche sites. Your instructions
made it WAY EASIER than I remember when I rst setup a Facebook page for my main blog
years ago. Thanks a ton for putting this out there!
No problem! Glad to hear that FB hasn’t changed everything – been awhile since I set up

a page. 🙂
I was pretty lost trying to gure out how to set this up. You were a huge help! Thanks for
making it so simple.
Glad to know it was helpful and still relevant! Thanks so much for stopping by. 🙂
Thank you! Just started a brand new blog. This was the step by step I needed to do one more of
the bazillion things I didn’t even realize went with just writing the blog.
Hi Rita,
There are de nitely a lot of small extras that go along with blogging! Best of luck with
your blog and the new Facebook page! 🙂

Thanks for sharing this useful information. I did setup my blog page on facebook using your
easy to followup instructions. Will be looking forward to your other posts as well.
You’re very welcome, Mukta! I’m glad you were able to get your fan page up and going.
Best of luck growing your community! 🙂
Thank you very much, I’ll try setting up a fan page for my new blog today.
If I want to share links to my new blog posts out to my real Facebook friends, I can simply
become a fan of my own blog page and then share the articles with my friends as I see them in
my feed, correct?

Thanks for stopping by! You are correct – you can “like” your own page, then when
something is published there, you can share it on your personal FB pro le just like you
would with any other post from a page. Hope that helps!
Hi Andrea,
Just about to set up a facebook ‘fan’ page for my new extreme sports blog. Never been that
interested in facebook on a personal level and don’t even have a personal account yet.
Yep, it’s 2015 and I don’t have a facebook account. I must be the only person on the planet who
actually has a life and some time left in their day.
Nevertheless, are these instructions still relevant today in that I need to set up a personal
‘pro le’ and then create a ‘fan’ page? As I understand it also, to keep them ‘separate’, I should
avoid ‘liking’ from one to the other.
Thanks.
