E-business overview

Internet
 A worldwide system of computer networks in which any one computer can get
information from/or talk to any other connected computer using the TCP/IP protocols.
The Internet evolved from the ARPANET of the late 60’s and early 70’s.

Intranet

A private network inside a company or organization, which uses software like that used on
the Internet, but is for internal use only, and is not accessible to the public. Companies
use Intranets to manage projects, provide employee information, distribute data and
information, etc.

Extranet
 An extranet is a private network that uses the Internet protocols and the public tele-
communication system to share a business’s information , data or operations with
external suppliers, vendors or customers. An extranet can be viewed as the external

 An extranet is a collaborative network that uses Internet technology to link businesses
with their suppliers, customers, or other businesses that share common goals. An
extranet can be viewed as part of a company's intranet that is made accessible to

Penggunaan internet oleh perusahaan :


 Phase 1 : “Hello, I’m online, too” -- perusahaan ‘set up’ web page tetapi tidak
terstruktur. Tidak ado search engine. Hanya ado informaqsi tentang produk. Tidak
terhubung kepada ‘stock price’. Tidak ado komunikasi dengan secara internal di dalam
perusahaan.
 Phase 2 : “Structured Web site” – web site terstruktur, ado search engine untuk
mencari informasi tentang perusahaan, ado fasilitas bertukar pesan di dalam
perusahaan
 Phase 3 : “Trying e-commerce” – perusahaanmencoba melakukan transaksi secara
online tetapi sistem tidak terkoneksi secara langsung dengan ‘real database’ dari
perusahaan. Tidak ada interaksi langsung ‘back-end system’ perusahaan dengan ‘back-
end system’ perusahaan lain.
 Phase 4 : “Doing e-business” – web site terhubung dengan intranet perusahaan ,
dapat dilakukan pengambilan informasi dari basisdata internal, digunakan ‘secure
protocols’ pada transmisi data antara perusahaan dengan pelanggan atau perusahaan
lain.
 Phase 5 : “Pervasive e-business” – penggunaan semua peralatan yang menggunakan
chip (cellular phone, car, etc.) dalam mengakses informasi dari perusahaan untuk
melakukan e-business
 Phase 6 : “One world, one computer” -- all chip-based devices are interconnected and
create one huge information resource. The devices are able to interchange any type of
information on an object-oriented level. Applications are transparent to these devices.
Users won’t know where the answer to their problems come from.
