Rosanne Barr

Rosanne Barr was born in 1981 in the village of Gartocharn

at the south end of Loch Lomond.

She was awarded Silver and Gold Medals in successive years

in Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Galleries Drawing Competition
and subsequently exhibited at the Smith Galleries in Stirling.
In 2003 she graduated with First Class Honours from Duncan
of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. Later that year she
exhibited in London at the British Design Centre and at
The Mall Galleries where she was awarded a Licentiate of
Distinction by the Society of Designer Craftsmen.

This year Rosanne’s work explores rugged Scottish coastlines,

dramatic skies and quaint harbours around the East Coast of
Scotland.

“Tightly composed and hugely atmospheric, there is a very

pure sense of colour in Barr’s work, which has benefited in
this series with a shift into oil.” 12.09.09 The Herald

Toby Cooke

Toby Cooke was born in Stirling in October 1986, and

grew up near the village of Port of Menteith, Stirlingshire.

Showing a keen interest in art from a young age, he

enrolled in a one year Foundation Course at Leith
School of Art, Edinburgh, in 2004. It was whilst at LSA
that Cooke discovered his love of painting and, having
completed the course in 2005, he successfully obtained a
place at Edinburgh College of Art. Cooke studied at ECA
from 2005 to 2009, specialising in drawing and painting.

Toby still lives and works in Edinburgh. Toby won second

place in the Jolomo Awards in 2009.

Maurice Forsyth- Grant

Having grown up on the family farm in southern

Aberdeenshire, Maurice studied art at Duncan of
Jordanstone college of art, graduating from there with an
Honours degree in 1987.

Since then he has worked full time as a self-employed

artist. Early years were spent producing mainly maritime
commissions with a smaller element of architectural and
landscape ones, which has slowly evolved to mainly painting
Scottish landscape and coastal seascapes, topics of choice
particularly of Aberdeenshire and Angus.

He has paintings in a number of private and public

collections and received the Elizabeth Greenshields Award
in both 1988 and 2009, notable commissions in the past
have included the Royal yacht Britannia at Leith and more
recently several of the sand-dune coastline at Balmenie,
Aberdeen, site of the Trump golf course development. He
continues to paint from his home where he lives with his
wife and children over-looking the Montrose Basin and
north Angus coastline.

Jack Frame

Originally from Kent, Jack graduated from the Kent Institute of

Art and Design before coming to the prestigious Glasgow School
of Art. After a very successful Degree show, where he was also
awarded the Landscape Drawing and Standard life prize. From
2007 he held the Artist in residence position at Lomond School in
Helensburgh until June 2010. He now lives and works in Glasgow.

His recent feature in the BBC documentary ‘The Glasgow Boys’

displayed his passion for painting the local Scottish Landscape
from observation. He is best known for his portraits of Tree’s
delicately rendered on large sheets of Perspex or glass. Jack won
joint third place in the Jolomo Awards.

“Frame describes himself as a magpie in his approach to his

work, but he is also a romantic in the way he engages his artistic
sensibility - always striving to strip away the heaviness of what lies
before him, be it in landscape or a figurative work. What he has
produced so far is quite special, but keep an eye on this young man
as he has an eye which joins forces with his fingers to conjure up
triumphantly lyrical work.” Jan Patience, Arts writer, August 2009,
Herald and Homes and Interiors.

with BA (Hons) Drawing and Painting. Her studies included
a six month scholarship at the Facultad de Bellas Artes at the
University of Salamanca, Spain.

Claudia focuses on Perthshire and the Borders in her Scottish

Landscape paintings, from her home in rural Perthshire. As

Keith Salmon

Keith Salmon was the winner of the Jolomo Awards in 2009.

Keith was born in Essex in 1959 and studied art at

Falmouth College. He fulfilled a dream by moving to
Scotland 12 years ago and although by this time he was
registered as blind, he had the confidence in his new
paintings to start to exhibit them again.

Keith has his own studio at Irvine harbour side in North

Ayrshire. Having always loved walking in the hills, the
stunning Scottish landscape is the perfect source of
inspiration for his work. Winning the Jolomo Award last
year was “a great boost to my confidence and has allowed
me to concentrate on developing my painting further.”

Alistair Strachan

Born in Glasgow, Alistair studied art at Edinburgh College

of Art graduating with a BA (Hons) in 1981.

Alistair has won a number of awards including the William

Grant and Sons Ltd. Charitable Trust Prize, Paisley
Drawing Competition Prize Winner and the Patrick Allan
Fraser Scholarship, Hospitalfield, Arbroath.

He has been artist in residence at Grizedale Forest,

Hospitalfield Alumni Residency, Arbroath and Artita,
Piran, Slovenia.

His work shows a loose but deft use of paint in his

soft and gentle ‘birds eye view’ of Glasgow and other
Scottish cityscapes. Alistair’s paintings are often small,
but still manage to capture the monumental scale of the
urban landscape. Alistair was placed third equal in the
Jolomo Awards.
