A transformative experience
One of the most striking things about the world today is how
interconnected it is. Business, politics, technological change and society
do not exist in isolation but are perpetually influencing each other. We
have sought to reflect this in the Oxford 1+1 MBA by integrating a range
of different skills, ideas and approaches, and by inviting students to
explore different subjects.
Joining a unique institution
The Oxford 1+1 MBA is a once in a lifetime
experience. Students spend two years
within the University of Oxford, the oldest
University in the English-speaking world. As
a collegiate university, its departments and
colleges each have different roles to play
in student life. Your membership to one of
its 44 colleges and halls may become the
heart of your Oxford experience. Focused
on student welfare, they provide the
opportunity to meet students with different
backgrounds studying other subjects and
to be part of clubs and associations outside
the department administering your degrees.
You will spend two years interacting with
a large, internationally renowned and
interdisciplinary community, and upon
completion of your course, you will be part
of a Global Alumni Network.

Tackling world-scale issues
Throughout your time in Oxford, you
will be given many opportunities to
attend thought-provoking events and
to participate in debates at the Oxford
Union which relate to the diverse
themes explored in your chosen Master
and your MBA. Oxford Saïd alone hosts
on average over 300 events every year.
The Oxford Saïd MBA is built around three
cross-cutting themes that relate to the
world-scale challenges shaping today’s
business environment: Global Rules of the
Game, Entrepreneurship and Responsible
Business. You will focus on these themes
in three taught integrative modules, but
you will also see how they resonate within
other parts of the programme, and indeed
with guest speakers, non-programme
events and student-run conferences and
competitions.
An interdisciplinary approach
The University curricula draw upon
cutting edge research and knowledge
from various disciplines. The Oxford 1+1
MBA programme naturally promotes an
interdisciplinary approach by enabling
students to combine the depth of their
chosen Master’s degree with the breadth
of the MBA.

The Oxford 1+1 MBA road map

Year 1 Oxford Master’s degrees typically
require students to undertake one

Oxford Pershing Square
Graduate Scholarships
Every year, the Pershing Square Foundation awards up to five
scholarships to support exceptional individuals on the Oxford 1+1
MBA.1 The scholarship provides funding for tuition, college fees and
a contribution towards living expenses for both years of study.
Pershing Square Scholars also benefit from opportunities for
mentorship and networking with inspirational individuals and
organisations that are part of the Pershing Square
Foundation’s community.

Exceptionally, candidates already successfully admitted
to or undertaking MSc, MSt or DPhil programmes within the
University of Oxford that are not presently within the Oxford
1+1 MBA scheme may be eligible for consideration.

Pershing Square Scholars are also invited every spring to
take a ‘trek’ to New York City hosted by the Pershing Square
Foundation, during which they participate in meetings and
workshops with leading innovators and change makers.

Scholarship you must apply to the both your chosen Master’s
degree and the MBA by 16 March 2018. Please note that some

Meet recent Pershing Square Scholars
Lauren Xie
MSc in Nature, Society and Environmental Governance, School of
Geography
Through her experience working in Indonesia, Lauren has observed
that today’s complex human and environmental challenges have
urgent ethical implications. She aims to leverage opportunities
from global environmental change to improve social justice.
Giorgio Tarraf
MSc in Comparative Social Policy, Department of Social Policy and
Intervention
Giorgio has experience co-founding an NGO in Lebanon and work-
ing at the United Nations. His aim is to improve the living condi-
tions of urban populations around the world through the develop-
ment of urban plans centered on sustainability, with a focus on
post-conflict reconstruction.
Tulsi Parida
MSc in Social Science of the Internet
Tulsi wants to explore how to create equal learning opportunities
for all – particularly in low income communities through the use
of technology. She aims to focus her efforts on improving literacy
and reading comprehension skills for students in the Global South
where different technology often means low-bandwidth or limited
availability of the internet.
Carl Rietschel
MSc in Computer Science
Carl's aim is to use Artificial Intelligence technology to tackle
world-scale problems, and making sure it is spread responsibly and
ethically given its enormous relevance for society's future.
Tim Krupa
Master of Public Policy
Tim previous experience was with the policy team in the Office of
the Prime Minister of Canada. His aim is to improve the state of
the world by bridging the gap between business and public policy
to solve complex, world-scale challenges.
Vuyane Mhlomi
DPhil Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Vuyane aims to transform the lives of Africans through education,
healthcare and entrepreneurship. His non-profit organisation, the
MH Foundation, uses education as an instrument to cultivate Af-
rica's future leaders and ensures that the most marginalised chil-
dren have the chance to fulfil their true potential. He has also ded-
icated his work towards bridging the gap between medicine and
business to further aid access to affordable and quality healthcare
to the most disadvantaged communities in South Africa.
