MEDIA ALERT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

After school on Friday, February 16, 2018, the Sangamon Valley High School
Administration was contacted by the Macon County Sheriff’s Department about a
possible threat against the high school made by students earlier in the week. Within
minutes of receiving the report, Macon County Deputies and the school administration
worked together to determine the credibility of the possible threat. Shortly thereafter, the
suspects were taken into custody for questioning. Additional actions were taken over
the weekend by both the school administration and the Sheriff’s Department to ensure
the safety of all students, staff and community members. Today, a similar threat was
made by another student. The incident was immediately reported to the administration
and dealt with accordingly.

We are grateful for our community’s support and the strong partnership that has been
developed with our local law enforcement and first responders. However, everyone
must take an active role in the discovery and reporting of any and all threats to the
administration and local law enforcement. Please be assured that the safety and
security of students and staff has been and will remain Sangamon Valley’s top priority.
