Dear Imece Volunteer, here you find all the basic information you needabout our work.

Imece Inisiyatifi is a small association, originally founded as a initiative in 2014 with the aim to support
underprivileged locals who are impacted by the social, economic, and political consequences of capitalism.
Nowadays, we have several projects ongoing.

Two days a week we leave Cesme for activities in Izmir province. The mobile education project aims for
teaching Turkish and the latin alphabet as well as the basics in maths to refugee children in inofficial camp
areas. Volunteers give a hand to the teachers, play with the children and try to make sure the kids stay
within their age group. But the main job is to play with the children :) Furthermore, we distribute hygiene
and baby supplies to those refugee families with the most need. The volunteers´ job here is to help
distributing the goods to the families.

Currently, we are building up our Imece Education Village for 4 days a week on a piece of land in Cesme
with a size of around 20 000 m2. We will offer courses for refugee women and children. The topics we will
teach are Turkish language, handcrafts, information about legal issues concerning refugees in Turkey and
other topics. The volunteers´ job here is to help building the volunteers´houses and to help in agriculture
(weeding, planting, watering the plants etc) and helping out to the trainers about the children and their
safety. We are already living in the village and also you will stay there, if you do not want to stay in a hotel.
It is part of our philosophy that together with everyone, whether staying long-term or short-term, we will
create the village as place where it is nice to live.

If you would like to volunteer with us please send us a short CV (1-2 pages as Word-doc or PDF) stating your
profession or skills and if, where and how long you worked with refugees before, and where you are
planning to go after volunteering with us. You can send it per e-mail to
contact@imeceinisiyatifidernegi.com . You can also state the period in which you are able to come, it
should be no less than 1 week, the longer the more helpful for us.

7. While spending time with refugees clothing should always be appropriate, no matter how hot it is, i.e.
the legs should be covered down to the knees and, for ladies, please no belly free tops or tops which
show much decollete.
8. Imece lives from the exchange of ideas and suggestions everybody makes, and there will be many
opportunities to talk about ideas. On the field, however, while working, please listen to the Imece

in certain situations might have more factors in mind than you can overlook in a few weeks. Please
