Basic rules for interpreting charts using Bhrigu Nadi

 Karaka of a planet is given more importance than the lordship.

 Lagna is not considered.
 Jupiter is the Jeeva.
 Saturn is the Karma karaka.
 In Nadi, there are no subha or asubha planets. Only friendship / enemity
between them.
 From the planet in reckoning, other planets in 2nd, 12th, and 7th, decide the
result.
 Planets in 2nd and 12th form a Kartari yoga based on friendship between
planets. Enemies in these houses will cause damage to the karakatwas of the
said planet. Similarly, planet in 7th can cause maximum damage since it is the
maraka sthana for the planet.
 First check the planets in 2, 12, and 7. Then check the planets in 5 th, and 9th.
Planets in 5th from the said planet indicate promise in this life.
 Planets in the same direction (1, 5, 9 positions) are said to be conjunct. They
work together.
 A planet will always give Karakatwa results of the conjoining (or) aspecting
planets.
 Planets in 3, 7, 11 aspect planets in opposite direction. They denote
attachments.
 Hence, a planet is located in a sign will give beneficial results if friendly
planets are aspecting the considered planet from:
o 1 – 5 – 9 (Same direction)
o 3 – 7 – 11 (Opposite direction)
o 2 - 12 (front and rear)
 It will give bad results if enemy planets are aspecting the considered planet
from the above places.
 If a planet is exalted and it does not have any planets in 2 nd, 7th or 12th
houses, its exaltation is useless. The amount of beneficence is seen from the
planets in those positions. Also the planets present should be friends since
enemies in the said positions restrict/constrict the planet’s exaltation results.
 Similarly, if a planet is debilitated and has friends in these positions, its
negative results will be reduced. If enemies are present the effect will be
magnified.
 A retrograde enemy graha in 2nd house will speed up the result (because he
will be going towards the graha) where as in 12th its effect will be less on the
reckoning planet (he will be going away from the planet).
 For a planet to give good result, at least one friendly planet should be present
in 2nd, 12th, 7th, 5th or 9th.
 Parivartana yoga (exchange of planets) is very important in Nadi. In such a
case, chart analysis can be done assuming the planet to be in its own house.
(In actuality also, planets in parivartana are supposed to go into their own
houses after half of the life).
 If two planets are debilitated and in parivartana, then there is neecha bhanga.
 In parivartana yoga, if another planet is conjunct with either of the planets
(involved in exchange), then the karakatwas of the conjunct planet suffers.
 Karakatwas are also affected depending upon the placement of planet in a
particular rasi.
 Jupiter indicates free will and Saturn indicates fate.
 If Jupiter and Saturn are very close to each other, the native comes up in life
early.
 Saturn and Jupiter in 6 / 8 or in 2 / 12 to each other, sudden fall in life.
 Saturn and Jupiter in opposition is not good for health.
 Conjunction of planets has a very special meaning. They have a higher role to
play in analysing the effects of planets.
 Rahu and Ketu also play an important role. Planets separated by Rahu/Ketu
axis are deemed separate. Example: If SUN and MOON are on either side of
RKA, father and mother are not close or the native’s ego and mind are
separate.
 Each planet has a quota for giving karakatwa results. Some are more seen
than other. Example: SUN in exaltation, as the native grows, father will come
down.
 Planets in own house, their internal manifestations come out more and for
planets in other houses, its external karakatwas come out more.
 Enemies for each planet are as listed below. The rest (that are not listed) of
the planets are friends. The enmity is based on their karakatwas.

PLANET ENEMIES
Sun Venus, Saturn, Rahu
Moon Venus, Mercury, Saturn, Rahu
Mars Mercury, Saturn, Rahu
Mercury Moon, Ketu, Mars
Jupiter Moon
Venus Sun, Moon, Ketu
Saturn Sun, Moon, Mars, Ketu
Rahu Sun, Moon, Mars
Ketu Mercury, Venus, Saturn

Note: Jupiter being Jeeva does not have any enemies. However, Moon can
be considered since for any Jeeva, mind is its enemy.

 Summarily, consider the following planetary Karakatwas for interpreting a

chart:
To know,
a. Character, appearance – Jupiter
b. Father - Sun
c. Mother – Moon
d. Wife - Venus
e. Husband - Mars
f. Education - Mercury
g. Profession - Saturn
h. Elder brother - Saturn
i. Younger brother - Mars
j. Younger brother (2nd) - Mercury
k. Elder sister - Moon
l. Younger sister - Venus
m. Younger sister (3rd) - Mercury
n. Paternal Grand Father - Rahu
o. Maternal Grand Father - Ketu
p. Maternal Uncle - Mercury
q. Girlfriend/Boyfriend - Mercury
r. Mother-in-law - Moon
s. Father-in-law - Mercury
t. Livelihood/Finance - Venus
u. Vehicles – Venus
v. Landed property – Mercury

 For timing of the events, aspects of natal planets on transiting planets like
Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu and to some extent Mars have to be analysed.
Here, a sambandha is formed by the natal planets with the transiting planets
when they are especially in trikonas to each other.
