DEPTH OF SLAB AND EFFECTIVE SPAN

Assume Thickness of Slab = 80 mm

Minimum Clear Cover = 40 mm
Therefore, Overall Thickness of Slab = 520 mm
Diameter of Reinforcement (ie dia. Of bar) = 20 mm
Therefore, Effective Depth = 470 mm

Effective Span is least of

a) (clear span + effective depth) = 6.47 m
b) (Center to center lenth of bearings) = 6.4 m

Hence effective span (L) = 6.4 m

DEAD LOAD BENDING MOMENT

Self weight of slab = 13 kN/m2
Self weight of wearing course = 1.76 kN/m2
Therefore Total load = 14.76 kN/m2
Dead Load Bending Moment = 75.5712 kN.m
DEAD LOAD BENDING MOMENT FROM
SOFTWARE = 80 kN.m

LIVE LOAD BENDING MOMENT

Impact Factor (I) = 25% for 5m span
10% for 9m span

Therefore, Impact Factor = 19.75

The tracked vehicle is placed symmetrically on the effective span

Effective length of load = 4.8 m
Effective width of slab perpendicular to span is expressed as,

be = K*x*(1-x/L)+bw

Effective depth required is computed as

d = √(M/Qb)
= 412.47431 mm

Effective depth provided = 470 mm safe

Area of tension reinforcement Ast = M/(j*d*σst) = 2218.073 mm2

Spacing of 20mm dia. Bars = 141.6361 mm 140 mm

Adopt 20 mm diameter bars at 140 mm C/C as main reinforcement

to conform to the criteria of control of cracking according to IRC 21-2000

Area of steel provided = 2243.995 mm2

Bending moment for distribution reinforcement = (0.3*ML + 0.2*MD)

= 48.86021 kNm

Diameter of Reinforcement (ie dia. Of bar) = 12 mm

Effective depth = 454 mm

Area of steel provided = 596.5981 mm2

Spacing of 12mm dia. Bars = 189.5704 mm 180 mm

Provide 12 mm dia. HYSD bars at 180 mm C/C as distribution reinforcement.

To prevent Shrinkage cracks, provide supplementary reinforcement of 10 mm dia. Bars at 300mm C/C bothways as top steel
CHECK FOR SHEAR STRESSES

BY IRC 21 -2000

Design shear stress ( t ) = (V/bd)

Nominal shear stress at supoort of slab (t) = 0 N/mm2

Area of reinforcement at supports = Ast = 2243.995 mm2

Now,
(100*Ast)/(b*d) = 0.47744569

Therefore, τc = 0.3028 N/mm2

Now, K = 1

Therefore, K*τc = 0.3028 N/mm2 SLAB IS SAFE IN SHEAR

Med/β1*β2*b*fcd = 47869.55
